Cost of tooth extraction

I had my lower back molar extracted yesterday and got a shock when I went to pay and it was 250!!! It was straight forward I was in and out in 15 minutes .. I wasn’t told a price at previous appointment and on looking at their website I can see extraction costs are between 120-250..I think 250 for a straight forward tooth extraction is crazy!
Is this the normal rate now?

Did you have any specialist sedation or just the needles?

DH got quoted £90 recently, also for a molar which is loose. Its an NHS dentist in central London, but they also do private work. They said if it was an emergency extraction, it would be £275.

No it was a straight forward normal extraction done in minutes, was booked by dentist back in January , not an nhs dentist where can you find one of those these days

I know. We travel over 3hrs round trip to our old, NHS dentist. We do other things in the town too, but its ridiculous because our entire county have no NHS dentists!

How much do you think it costs to keep a room in a dental clinic open and running for an hour? The extraction might have gone wrong and needed multiple times longer to finish safely- the clinic has to ensure it does not work at a loss, and the professional treating you deserves to earn fairly too. You are right, this means it costs a lot.

Private dentists by me charge £100-£150. My last one was an impacted wisdom tooth that was NOT simple and it was £150

I paid 600 quid, in the north, last year to have one wisdom tooth extracted (by a surgeon but not under general anaesthetic). I was only in there 10 mins in total!

I mean it costs £125 for a hygienist appointment and £90 for a check up so I’d say that’s not bad. DH root canal was £800

Having a crown done next month, £589.50.Its either that or loose the tooth and I need it to chew so having to scrape the money together.My dentist was NHS but is all private now

Had to have mine removed as an emergency a few years ago, and I was in another part of the country on holiday - emergency NHS dentist on a Saturday via 111 - xray, tooth extraction, and as much anaesthesia as I wanted because the dentist said it wasn't his clinic 😆cost me £20!

Would you rather it took an hour? It takes a lot of skill to quickly extract a tooth. You're paying for the years of practice not the 15minutes it took.

Private dentistry they can charge what they want.

My DS needs 4 teeth out for his brace to be fitted, they have quoted me £560 for the pleasure of ripping his healthy teeth out 🥲

I paid £650 for a tricky root canal filling. It was 3 separate appointments by a specialist dentist, but still daylight robbery .

Hi two years ago I had root canal 3 appointments 800!! And a crown after cost me 750 I sort of expected it for those procedures but I thought an extraction was about 100 quid so I was gobsmacked at 250 😩
Then again the last time I’d had an extraction was 23 years ago
