Broken wrist misdiagnosis

My DC fell and hurt their wrist on saturday and was told at A&E that there was a break and they pointed out the specific location on the Xray. They said we would get a call today from the orthopaedic department and they are now saying it's not broken. But I don't trust them at all and dont want to take the splint off yet as im not convinced its not broken! This is the same hospital that told me my finger wasnt broken last year, and the nurse was manipulating it saying its just stiff. They called me when I was on the way home to say actually it is broken! Does anyone have any advice about how common this is for 2 sets of health professionals in the same hospital having completely opposite diagnostic opinions. The GP said they cant get involved as they don't have access to the Xrays and no jurisdiction over the hospital departments

Very common in my experience with my children's fractures. I've not had a reversed decision though, just fractures that were later picked up on review.

I'd be inclined to keep the splint on for as long as your child finds it helpful, unless you've been advised otherwise.

How old is the child? Are they able to communicate their pain to you accurately?

My mum fell and was told she'd fractured her wrist. Set in plaster and sent home. Still extremely painful. Returned to hospital where they took the plaster off and said it wasn't broken. Still extremely painful. Returned to hospital where they said it was broken but had been set wrongly the first time. Different plaster - all well.

Hi, yes they are 11 and clearly able to explain the nature and location of the pain. I just dont trust them
