Sciatica after back pain has eased

Had an episode of back but more hip pain last year. MRI in August was 'all ok' and by that time the pain had gone. Didn't really get classic sciatic symptoms. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago after having done an exercise class with a hip pendulum movement and I ended up in A&E with excruciating back pain only, where they did a raft of tests which then led them to diagnose kidney stones and I was sent home. The back pain slowly started easing and I was doing some physio given Swiss ball exercises every couple of hours. I them did a class and the pain ramped up. And then the sciatica started. The acute pain moved from my back into my buttock and hip. Physio said piriformis and keep up with the exercises but they (squats and knee raises) make things worse. Its manageable as long as I don't sit for long periodsand worse on getting out of bed. Using ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain - did try naproxen but 125mg left me feeling completely stoned. On getting my MRI report read by a physio, at the time I had bursitis in the hip that didnt hurt, a partially fused sacrum/lower vertebrae (congenital) and 2 bulging discs. Had I known this I would probably have been more mindful of looking after my back! Any one else have the pain move into the leg as the back clears? Other tips welcome!

I’m waiting for my MRI results, been suffering from what MSK thought was a bulging disc pressing on my sciatic nerve, been horrendous for about 4 weeks. Friday I went for some acupuncture and I’m now only getting slight tingly feeling in my leg rather than pain. I’m managing to tolerate Naproxen and also have Amitriptyline on a night.

Its an awful pain. Im looking at acupuncture too. It was easing a little then the MSK chap I saw yesterday said to nerve floss. Never again. Pain right back up there!

I have (had?) two bulging discs. I attended physio, did the exercises and have slowly increased to doing pilates, swimming and weightlifting (over the past year) I did get bad nerve pain at one point, I take amitriptyline which has done wonders,. I can’t sit /stand or walk for long periods (I’m constantly changing position) but my pain has reduced a lot. I take over counter and have naproxen/cocodomol for flair ups. I also drink lots of water and try to eat a anti inflammatory diet

Thank you! I've had a better few hours since finishing work so hopefully going in the right direction. Ive less leg pain today. Im looking at pilates classes nearby so its good to hear that worked for you.
