Vitamin D injections?

Has anyone ever had these? Do they work? Just found out my vit D is at 33, so pretty low. Can't find much info about injections online. My active B12 is low as well at 25 so I'll be speaking to the gp soon about that.

You take capsules orally for vit D

RealLifeClanger · 22/02/2026 15:35

@endofthelinefinally yes, i know most people do but I likely have absorption issues so I'm investigating alternatives.

B12 comes as an injection, but l have not heard of one for vitamin D. I use the oral spray (1000), suggested by other folk like me with autoimmune disorders on Health Unlocked. Perhaps ask your GP to test for pernicious anemia?

Vit D injections don’t seem to be given often, as oral supplements work.
Why don’t you try the prescribed supplements and see what happens, as even with malabsorption I think Vit D is absorbed.
malabsorbtion needs to be really severe for the injections to be given.

Thanks both. I'll try some vitamin d spray rather than tablets. I paid privately for the tests so I'm showing the results to the gp next week. They wouldn't do further testing as my serum B12 was showing as in range but my private results for active B12 say otherwise. I was desperate for them to check for PA and gastritis but they wouldn't :( I'm really hoping they will now I have more solid evidence.

I had a vitamin D injection at the hospital about 15 years ago. Some enormous number of ius. It had no effect on my levels whatsoever.

i was told we are deficient in vitamin d in this country because of a lack of strong sunlight so im not surprised youre levels are low. they should perk up with supplements. they are cheap.

i get b12 injections though.

When I was initially diagnosed with low Vitamin D my doctor told me that the injections can lead to cardiac issues which is why the therapy is generally oral. AFAIK, magnesium helps with absorption, but make sure it's magnesium glycinate, not magnesium citrate as the latter has laxative properties.

Vit D should be taken with Vit K2, there is an excellent oral spray called BetterYou. I also have PA due to a lack of intrinsic factor .

Having PA will not necessarily mean you cant absorb vit D orally like b12. I now have b12 Injections twice weekly since being diagnosed but order them from Germany.

Unfortunately the NHS is woefully ill equipped to manage PA effectively.

You also need a full iron panel and your folate checked. This needs to be optimal for b12 therapy to be effective.
