Ultrasound this morning and contacted by GP 4 hours later

I had a pelvic ultrasound this morning (internal and external) due to pain I've been getting since mid October. At the scan they found something in my endometrium, talked about imaging of the blood supply etc and mentioned possibly a polyp which is quite a common finding and likely just a coincidence. They did however say the results would be sent back to my GP today, which I thought sounded quite quick. Anyway, left the appointment at 10.15 and GP receptionist called at 2.15 to book an appointment to discuss the scan results.

While my GP practice are generally very good and efficient once results are received, this just seems really fast and I'm a bit worried tbh! Is this usual!? Booked to go in first thing Monday morning.

From what you’ve described, I think the most likely finding has been thickening of the endometrium, which is a very common ultrasound finding, and in most cases is benign. It can be caused by a polp/ benign endometrial hyperplasia etc. but in a minority of cases can be an indication of endometrial cancer. If that is the finding then they would refer you to gynaecology for an endometrial biopsy to clarify the diagnosis. While it most likely isn’t endometrial cancer, if it is then it is a highly treatable form of cancer with a very good prognosis, which requires a hysterectomy but is cured in most women. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come to that though.

Not much help, sorry, but your results might be on your NHS app?

Thanks for your reply, yes now you mention that, they did say thickening so perhaps that's it.

Did they show you the measurement?

Whenever I have a TVU they tell me how many MM the endometrial lining is and show me the image.

Should give you a good idea.

I went in for hysteroscopy and d +c for post meno bleeding. I was supposed to be out that day, but they went ahead and did a full resection of endometrium as they didn't like the look of what they saw in there! Awaiting pathology now but hoping for the best. I was in for three days in the end and am sorry to say I am traumatised by the procedure (GA). Very heavy bleeding after it, catheter removal gave me great discomfort and I still can't pee properly ouch!. I had severe pain too. Honestly I am in shock still.

But it's done now and if I need more treatment so be it. Better to know now I suppose, and it could be all ok. Fingers crossed!

Did you have an update op? Hope you are ok.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 21/02/2026 19:45

@damsello I had a Hysteroscopy D&C under GA two years ago and needed codeine I've never known cramps like it, for a week afterwards. I was on the ceiling with the pain.

I can only imagine how you feel after catherisation too. Hope you recover soon.

Ah, thanks so much for the good wishes, I don't think many actually "get" how awful the aftermath of this procedure is, and it's comforting to know that I am not alone in this!

Anyway, ten days later I'm still not right at all. Bleeding a lot still but not profusely, however it's very upsetting to see it after 20 years of menopause! And like you I have never known pain like it. Never. I shall be asking the consultant at follow up why adequate pain relief was not provided or prescribed. As things stand, if this bleeding doesn't stop soon I reckon I'll be anaemic soon. Am already feeling weird and will go to GP as soon as I feel I can walk properly again.

Best of luck to you and thanks for the solidarity.

Hi, fortunately the Dr I saw said everything looked normal! I was so worried going in that I then didn't even think to ask about the possible polyp that had been mentioned at the scan.
