I want to claw out my eyes!!!

I am on antihistamines.

I am washing my face a lot, and having 2 baths a day to wash off all pollen.

I am using eye drops.

But still they just hurt and itch, and now my eczema seems to have kicked in round them so I have flakey eyelids.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

I have tried various different antihistamines but these are the best for me.

YOu need a Lloyds Allergy Reliever, £15, Lloyds chemist

Chocolateteapot · 16/06/2008 07:57

And you could start on a nasal spray, something like Beconase as well.

Flamesparrow · 16/06/2008 08:00

Ooh thank you

(How's you anyway? Wanna meet up?)

zippitippitoes · 16/06/2008 08:01

ive found beconsae really good

cluckyagain · 16/06/2008 08:01

Wrap around sunglasses help.

Flamesparrow · 16/06/2008 08:02

I wear glasses, but they are wide arms.

Will beconase help my eyes? The nose side of things is fine

do you wear suinglasses ? Dh finds that really helps cut it down.

Also a colleague at work swears by this - I am just about to order one for dh.

lucykate · 16/06/2008 08:06

my eyes were really bad this year, worse they've ever been, was using all kinds of tablets and eye drops, until dh got me some beconase, and it worked, sorted the drippy nose and the itchy eyes! i was really dubious about it at first but am now on my second bottle.

brimfull · 16/06/2008 08:06

have just seen link sorry

do you stick it up your nose then?

Chocolateteapot · 16/06/2008 08:08

That's the one, in Throckenholt's link, been brilliant here. Was also about to suggest the vaseline up nose job, my Dad swears by it.

Things improving here thanks Flame. Would love to meet up, will have a look at Calendar but I know that there is a lot on it atm with leaving stuff/starting new school stuff for the DCs and I suspect I am still flat out, but just haven't dared look..... Will have a look and get back to you when I have more caffeine in me !

Chocolateteapot · 16/06/2008 08:17

Sorry ggirl, yes you do. Your nose glows red and you look ridiculous but it has made a big difference to my hayfever, DD as well. Stayed with friends this weekend, she started using one on Friday and was in a right state before with the anti-histamines not doing much. She was a lot better by the time we left on Sunday so cautiously optimistic it is helping her as well.

EffiePerine · 16/06/2008 08:24

vaseline round the eyes? sounds painful.

throckenholt · 16/06/2008 08:28

chocolateteapot - is it ok for kids ? My DS (5) seems to be sowing signs of hayfever for the first time - was wondering if he could use it too.

brimfull · 16/06/2008 08:35

how often do you have to stick it up your nose?

Does it help the eye and ear symptoms as well?

Chocolateteapot · 16/06/2008 08:43

It's vaseline around the nostrils, not the eyes . Traps particles of pollen and prevents them from entering the nose.

I'm sure I read it is fine for children, though I would check 100% with Lloyds as I can't find where I read it now. DD is 9 and has been using it twice a day ( you press a button, it starts up, you glow then it beeps after about 3 mins and turns itself off)

I use it 3 times a day and most of the time I don't need anti-histamines. I think you can use it up to 4 times but again you'd need to check it.

It works by suppressing the cells that release histamine in your nose, so does also help eyes as well. Not sure about ears as I don't get problems with them, but it does help my throat.

Do a search for it on Moneysavingexpert.com, I read about it there on a thread where people were posting up positive experiences last year and am really pleased I got it. But I don't think it works for absolutely everyone. Medinose is a more expensive version of the same thing that you can google for more info.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 16/06/2008 18:41

DS1 has one of these - he glows like Rudolf when he uses it - hard to know if its helping or if its the pharamcopeia he is als taking - all the above mentioned. with all this stuff better this year than in previous years ( he gets asthma, only in hayfever season, and two years ago was hopsitalised due to it.) Can't ge thim to do the vaseline thang tho'

Notquitegrownup · 17/06/2008 10:50

Vaseline around the eyes is wonderful too. Not at all painful. I use it if I have started rubbing my eyes and can't stop. Wash them first in cold water, then rub lots of vaseline all around the area. It's quite soothing and stops you doing that accidental rub of the eyes (cause your hands get all sticky) which starts you rubbing more. It looks messy, but it works as short term relief from itchiness.
