My Mother's LMM has returned. She first had it in 2011.
Since then she has had 2 bouts of breast cancer. She had a further LMM removed last year, needing a skin graft (face, near eye).

She was told only to contact dermatology if the skin became discoloured. It did not but became puckered. She tried to contact Dermatology but could not get a reply. Eventually she went in & she was quickly passed onto a Consultant.

She had a further biopsy last week. She asked what the chances are of needing a further large excision (12 stitches) within 12m of previous & was told 2%.

She is 78. Otherwise fit and well (but will not consider radio/chemo therapy)
She is my adoptive mother. My actual mother & my partner have both died from cancer in past 4 years (he: bladder/she: ovarian) both right at the end of covid restrictions so it was extra hard.I don't know what I'm asking. Company maybe?

that sounds hard op. to lose your loved ones so recently and now another loved one has something up too.

i know nothing if these things but if they are saying it’s only a 2% chance, that sounds hopeful. fingers crossed it’s somethimg else easy to sort or just as a result of post operative swelling going down.

@TalulahJP Thank you for replying. I read it differently, that 98% don't need another large excision within 12m, ie its fairly aggressive. We'll know more in 3 weeks when biopsy results (& she's had internal scans too) are available.
Thank you, yes, it is hard. Bloody cancer.

call me crazy but i think it’s the other way round.
she was asked if she’d need surgery and told 2% chance.
so there’s a 98% chance she will not.
read it again and see if you agree.

i can seem to cut and paste your sentence or i would!

@TalulahJP not 'crazy' & really helpful to have another perspective.
I think I expressed it badly though?
She had surgery last year. She noticed changes to the scar after about 8m (its taken 4m to get in front of the right person again...). She needed another large area excised (& is now having intenal scans to see if it's spread). She asked what were the chances of that happening again so soon & was told: '2%'

@TalulahJP (who kindly replied to my op)
Update:
sadly the cancer is advancing at a rate now. Multiple satellites have been found 2cm from original area. 2 further small surgeries have happened. Waiting to hear Plan from Oncology.
