Keep being told to go to A&E after fainting- think it’s pointless….

Today I passed out on the tube and hit my head on the way down. Got a big lump on my forehead just above and alongside my eyebrow and a bit of a graze.

I passed out as I’ve been working 12-15 hour days plus weekend for the last 10 days (very unusual circumstances, unavoidable), I’ve got a slight temp due to an ear infection and I’m on weight loss jabs and forgot to eat breakfast before sprinting for the tube. A lot of daft choices.

The reason I keep being told to go to A&E is because I’m on Apixaban (blood thinner I take daily due to a history of DVT.) The one thing you’re not supposed to do on blood thinners is hit your head due to to the risk of brain bleeds.

Im on 2.5mg twice a day (low dose) but did forget my morning dose at the same time I forgot to eat breakfast. I think if I turn up at A&E with no symptoms other than a big lump I’ll be sitting in a chair for 12 hours and never be seen. 111 say to go in but they always say that and I don’t know why I call.

DS who is 15 and a worrier is hovering and telling me to go and has enlisted DD to call from uni to tell me to go. DH says to wait but he’s the one who broke his foot in 3 places and didn’t go in until he had to have his shoe cut off so he’s not to be listened to.

I don’t think they’ll see me if I turn up. What does everyone else think?

You need to start looking after yourself. Eat, get daylight and exercise.
How old are you?

I’m 54.
I am trying to look after myself more - hence weight loss jabs. I’m down from 16 stone to 10. No longer pre diabetic. Exercising 3 times a week plus 10000 steps of dog walking. Drastically reduced my alcohol intake.

It’s been quite a year!

in terms of work I managed to get my massive global organisation to do something remarkable for the first time- and I had to make it work. It will have a significant positive impact on thousands of our lower paid global employees and I’m exhausted but delighted.

Glad you're ok OP. Just want to add that Mounjaro etc can make PoTS worse

That’s upsetting to hear. I love the jabs. They’ve changed my life.

I am looking into getting assessed for POTS. I don’t think I fit all the criteria and I’ve always had low blood pressure which I just assumed this was. However they did see something unusual as I was getting up and down from a tilted table….

I’m fine thank you! Had a CT scan and they worried me for a minute when they went and got a second opinion but no bleeding. I’m off the Apixaban for the next few days just to be certain so I have to drink loads of water and stand every hour.

Everyone was fabulous at the hospital. They may have solved my “I feel dizzy when standing up” problem, which may also explain the faint, as they suggested I get tested for something called POTS. I had a ECG and they did some measurements with me getting on and off a tilted table. They didn’t have time to do it properly (I think I just got a super keen new resident who liked solving things) but I will look into it as the dizziness has been getting worse recently.

I finished my work and uploaded everything at 11.50 last night. I can relax now! I don’t usually work stupid hours but this has been a very unusual few weeks and I’ve been doing something that I feel really strongly about from a values perspective.

On antibiotics for the ear infection.

Bruise coming up nicely !

Did you have dizzy spells before the ear infection? They can usually cause dizziness

I think it can also cause PoTS symptoms in people who didn't have PoTS before too, so that might be the case with you. You might have to come off them then unfortunately

PoTS is diagnosed using only postural Heart Rate increases, blood pressure is separate. If your BP drops after standing, then that would be Orthostatic Hypotension, either instead of or alongside the PoTS

If I was you, I would stop the jabs while waiting for the Tilt Table Test, that way you'll get more accurate results

I have POTS. If you want to know any more about it, ask away.

It often occurs in people with a number of other conditions such as EDS, ME/CFS, ADHD and autism.
