Wisdom tooth removal

do you usually have a consultation appointment before wisdom tooth removal or do they just take them out there and then?
i have a hospital appointment tomorrow and the letter mentions it is for initial appointment, conversation and possible X-ray but also that it may take up to two hours so I wasn't sure, I know I should have phoned to check but I've left it too late now. Just trying to mentally prepare myself incase I go and they are actually removing them.

In my case it was a consultation and x ray followed by an appointment for removal.

I would be very surprised if they removed it then and there. I’ve had one lower back one out under local a anaesthetic at the hospital due to complex health needs and they gave me an initial appointment with X-rays and then booked me in for a few weeks time.

I think what they have put in the letter covers it - they are going to do the necessary diagnosis. Then there will be a follow up treatment at a later date.

Thankyou, the general consensus is what I was hoping, there was just that little 'what if' creeping in that I was beginning to stress about

They won’t do it there and then. I had my initial hospital appt 18 months and am still waiting. It’s been over 3 years since I was first referred to the hospital. I’ve had more bloody appts and X-rays than I know about this tooth. Been to two dentists, one dental clinic and a hospital.

Are you me?

I had two to remove and it’s been 4 years of infections and appointments and scans. Still no closes to getting these buggers out.

good luck OP.

Totally normal to feel a bit apprehensive just beforehand. I had three out under general anaesthetic about 15 years ago. I had the initial dentist appointment, then a consultant appointment, then the operation, and finally a follow up appointment. It was a bit uncomfortable when recovering at first, but within a week I felt much brighter and so interesting to see how quickly my teeth started to straighten up too - I am much less 'chihuahua' on my lower jaw than before!

Thankyou you've all put my mind at rest!
I've been waiting around 18 months for this appointment, thankfully no infections for a while (touch wood!) but the waiting lists for everywhere are just awful aren't they!

Had my appointment this morning and needn't had been worried, just a chat and xray and now another roughly years wait for the actual surgery.
