Chest pain but everything ‘normal’

milliewillie · 09/02/2026 19:18

I’ve had left side chest pains for around 6 months.

Sometimes the pain is quite severe, other times background, but always present.

I’ve had ECG, MRI, CT, echocardiograms etc, nothing found.

If everything is apparently fine then what they hell is it? It’s making me so miserable now, it’s really impacting my day to day. I’m 51.

Has anyone had similar?

I'm an ex cardiac nurse and it wasn't uncommon to get people in with pain that turned out not to be heart related. Problem is the nerves there are no specific so can't recognise exactly where the pain is coming from.

So sorry as it sounds frustrating all you can do is keep pushing for assessments usually cardiac pain isn't constant and sounds like that had been explored so I would be thinking something stomach related or perhaps even spinal?

have they checked neck or spine? My left sided chest pain ended up being an issue in my neck

Costochondral inflammation? It can be agony

Vivienne1000 · 09/02/2026 19:36

As above, costochondritis? I had it for a while and thought I was having a heart attack. I am surprised this has not been mentioned to you as a possibility as it’s very common and extremely painful.

I’ve never heard of Costochondral inflammation!

Basically what happens is I go for a test and it’s all clear then I get a letter for the next one but no one has even talked to me since the first visit. ☹️

My first thought was costochondritis too. My daughter had it a couple of years ago and neither of us had ever heard of at the time. She had loads of tests to check for other things, all of which were ruled out.

In her case it disappeared after a week or two but I gather it can hang around for a few months.

Could it be gastric rather than chest? Have you had full bloods and do you know the results?

Another vote for Costochronditis. I have it as one of the many symptoms of Long COVID.
