I’m 45. I’m struggling a bit with print. Fine on my phone but I’ve noticed I’m squinting and struggling with books, especially with a sort of sepia colour rather than black on white.

Where is the best place to go - Specsavers?

I’ve always gone to Specsavers, mainly because they’re the closest optician to where I live(within walking distance).
I have never had any issues with them.At a routine eye check they picked up a small haemorrhage on my optic nerve and referrred me to the eye hospital. Turns out I have glaucoma. The ophthalmology consultant said that the glaucoma could not have been picked up any earlier.

Specsavers are franchises, so experiences and quality of service will probably differ. I go to a local independent because it’s convenient - I can get there in my lunch hour or after work. Since I started wearing varifocals, I’ve got my actual glasses from Asda because they are considerably cheaper. With single vision reading glasses, costs are much lower everywhere else, including independents.
