Can anyone help with my teeth?

Ever since i had my kids 7 years ago, i keep needing fillings in my teeth, (molars) after never needing them before. I'm really desperate for advice on what to do to prevent this. My dentist just says brushing but i am brushing my teeth really regularly and really well, plus flossing, inter dental brushes etc. Is there anything i can ask my nhs dentist for to prevent yet more fillings? Anything i need to take?

Could you ask your dentist to prescribe high fluoride toothpaste?

catera · 07/02/2026 22:19

Are you rinsing after brushing?

High fluoride toothpaste. No water when brushing teeth. Stick to eating 3x a day no nibbling in between. Good luck!

I’ve started using this, heard stannous fluoride is good

Limit sugar and acids in the diet. Brush teeth after every meal. High fluoride. Can ask dentist about re-enamelling teeth but that would be a private service.

Are you rinsing after brushing?

If you are OP, stop that habit. It’s spit no rinse.

It’s diet.
if you eat or drink anything sugary or starchy more than three times a day , even just a bite or a sip , you will get decay.

It doesn’t matter how many times you brush your teeth or what toothpaste , it’s diet.

Do you graze between meals , what do you drink between meals , do you have anything to eat or drink just before bed?

It doesn’t matter what you eat or drink at meal times, it’s inbetween that’s the problem. Not just sweets, biscuits , cake , crisps but “healthy” things like yoghurt, raisins , smoothies, fruit juice, granola bars , honey , that decay teeth.

Dry mouth can make things worse but it’s what you eat and drink between meals that’s the problem.

Also you need an hour gap after eating before you brush. Every time you eat you get digestive acids in your mouth so you don't want to brush your teeth with the acid in your mouth.
