Not sure if I've had a biopsy taken and read or not?

Following some post menopause bleeding, I had a scan that showed thickneing of womb lining. This was followed by a hysteroscopy and biopsy where a coil was also fitted. I've been waiting on outcome.

Received this letter today which reads like good news but it's a bit unclear and poorly worded. I am not sure whether they are saying that sample they took was so small they couldn't asses it or something else?

That doesn't make sense. There's a sentence missing in that final paragraph as it doesn't mention what the biopsy results were, just that the sample was scanty. Suggest you ask your GP to get the consultant to clarify it. I think reading between the lines that the sample, though scanty didn't show abnormal cells hence the reassurance at the end.

OK - thought I was going mad as I couldn't make it make sense. Calling GP is a 'hold for two hours' affair, which is why I posted here first!

Have you registered on the hospital patient portal? You might find more information on there. Also, try ringing the hospital O&G Department direct rather than going through your GP (I've found it useful to speak to one of the secretaries) and just explain that you were confused by the letter.

@Piknik Hope all is well for you, and it sounds like it is.

I'm due a hysteroscopy soon and am dreading it. Could I ask how yours went and were you given any anaesthesia/pain relief or anything? Thanks.

@Willowkins That's a good idea - thank you, I'll call on Monday. Don't know why i didn't think of that!

@ascenda I think a hysteroscopy is one of those things that people experience very differently. I have a relatively good pain threshold (childbirth with just gas and air twice) but I found the first one I had really uncomfortable - not agony - but I really didn't like the sensation and found it quite painful. This time, knowing that they were also taking a biopsy and fitting a coil, I opted to have it under a general.

If you are really worried, call ahead and ask what kind of pain relief options might be available and at the very least take a couple of nurofen before (I didn't do this first time round - might have helped).

It's over pretty quickly - fifteen minutes or so.
