I can't believe he has had this for 5weeks, the go said thursday he has an infection on his right lung, he is on meds and I have a humidifier on the go, but it doesn't seem to ease him...

I suppose it could be the lung infection.Often can cause coughing. If he is laid flat at night this could exacerbate it.If it doesn't clear up on the abs it would be worth rechecking with GP.

what age is he? has he had bouts of coughing before - how is his breathing? heavy and labored?

SparklyGothKat · 15/06/2008 01:41

He is 8 months, he has had a cough for 5 weeks now, I have been back and forth to the GP and it was only on thursday that a doctor said he has an infection. It wakes him up, and he sounds wheezy when he takes a breath in. I have put a pillow under his mattress to see if that helps.
It comes in bouts, he has been fine all day and now he is 'cough, cough, cough'

Usually if they have a cough it tend to worsen at night - is he coughing up Flem - gagging with it? Is it the first time he has had this coughing fits? GP's find it very hard to diagnosis Asthma at such a young age - but this time of the year it could be, pollen, poor humidity etc, most people think it is the cold weather that affects asthmatics but summer time is sometimes worse.

Hope you get some sleep - if he is bad again try him in the shower cubicle - steam may help loosen his chest but if this help you should take him back to do - or maybe the practice nurse - at doc. surgery is trained in asthma care sometimes they are better at spotting it cause they work with it.

Happy sleeping and lets hope he is feeling better tomorrow.
