TMI but cramping and now bleeding after orgasm argh!

I know that this is potentially TMI but before I panic / book a GP appt for a fortnight's time, I have been looking on here and elsewhere online so looking for further clues / reassurance.

I had an orgasm at about 9.15 this morning. A few minutes later I had period pain-type cramps in that area. They went, but then returned half an hour or so ago. I went to the loo just after that and noticed some spotting when I wiped and in the bowl.

I am mid cycle so unless something has gone wrong there this isn't my actual period.

I have read a few things on here about cramps or bleeding but not both at the same time. I am... Mildly concerned? This is a new one on me. Perfectly willing to watch and wait but any ideas to reassure in the meantime welcome.

It’s unexplained mid-cycle bleeding, the only correct answer is to see the GP surely?

Tina46 · 05/02/2026 09:43

If it's mid-cycle it's likely ovulation, but worth checking with GP. Or if it was after penetration (?) perhaps a cervical ectropian?!

GinaXExperience · 05/02/2026 11:15

Definitely book a GP appointment.
Once I had bad cramps and a sort of unusual bleed (almost like a really mild version of waters breaking in labour) about halfway through cycle and it turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. In most cases it can be managed at home and isn’t serious. Maybe look it up.
Go to the GP asap if it happens every time you have sex/ orgasm or if the symptoms don’t go away.

Thank you. It wasn't after penetration, so that's out. It was just odd yesterday. The cramping has gone away and no more bleeding either so whatever it is/was has stopped.

I have made a tentative GP appt for three weeks time. I should have had a normal period by then and will probably have had another orgasm or two (hopefully, ha!) so will be able to see if it happens again. If it doesn't and everything else is normal I might cancel the appointment.

i think i’d prob keep the appointment even if feeling fine. you don’t want to ignore something and worry. better to get checked and cleared.

Glitchymn1 · 05/02/2026 20:44

Keep the appointment and get checked out.

@Dietcokey I had something similar happen, but over where my right ovary would have been, which happened a handful of times. I saw my GP who did a thorough check and then referred me via the two week pathway and I had some bloods done as well. They showed a slight inflammation but nothing too bad. I had an ultrasound at the hospital and they couldn't see anything wrong and it didn't happen again.
I had an hysterectomy about a year later and nothing remarkable was noted about my ovaries so who knows what it was, but it was so painful when it happened it put me off sex for a while

Glad it stopped for you. I am hoping this was a one off for me. Strange as I can't think of anything unusual that would have caused it, and I didn't feel otherwise unwell or uncomfortable. I will see about keeping the GP appt but a mix of embarrassment and not wanting to make a fuss may make me cancel unless it happens again.

Please don't stress about making a fuss. GPs are there to check out any health worries. It seems the British are very worried about wasting doctor time. But you're seeing them for a very valid reason - unusual bleeding. Don't be embarrassed either. It's just another body part.

Dietcokey · 08/02/2026 08:53

Hmm. It's happened again. Not cancelling that appointment now. Bugger.

Do you have adenomyosis? It can cause post-sex pain. The technical term is dyspareunia I think.
