Does this mean they didn't see anything?

I had some scans today to check for any uterine issues, one abdominal and one transvaginal. It's taken me a long time to seek any investigation, mainly down to being worried that any tests wouldn't find anything "wrong" or my symptoms would be dismissed.

Towards the end of the scan, the radiologist/technician (I'm not sure what position they held) said "that all looks okay" then allowed me to clean up and get dressed etc.

Does this mean they didn't see anything on the scan, or is it just a routine thing to say?

I had to ask what happens next and she said to make an appointment with my GP for in about 2 weeks time?

They basically say nothing when they do the scan especially if a different person is going to report it.

they told me that they saw cysts and thickened womb lining jn the scan and gp called me same day to talk about it. Was then on the 2week referral cancer pathway. So Is imagine they didn’t find anything serious

Are you the OP with health anxiety who posted a few days ago?

Annamariadarling · 29/01/2026 16:30

@ThePerfectWeekend no that wasn't me

Whether they see anything at all im not sure but if its anything serious you know about it very very quickly and the poker face they are supposed to have drops. When I had a scan that showed cancer he asked if I had a follow up appointment set up and when I said I hadn't heard anything so wasn't sure he told me if I hadn't heard anything by tomorrow to ring them and he said about 3 times as I was leaving don't forget to ring tomorrow. Another time I had an ultrasound that showed a blood clot and the lady doing the scan told me at the time. Any other scans I've had where it hasn't been anything of significance they haven't really said anything.

I hope you get the answers you need. In a weird way getting the all clear is actually worse then them finding something.

Thank you for the responses. Thankfully I don't have any concerns about cancer - I'm sorry to those of you who have experienced that and hope you're all recovering.

I have been experiencing very heavy bleeding with severe one sided pain for a few years now, but the comment of "all looks okay" makes me think they haven't seen anything that would explain it.

Like you say @youalright and explanation for the symptoms would be a relief in a way, rather than feeling like its all in my head.

Have you considered endometriosis? That could be causing your issues but doesn’t normally show on an ultrasound unless there are lots of adhesions sticking organs together.

Think it is more a comment on the quality of the imaging and nothing glaringly unusual than a clinical judgement.

I have some serious issues (awaiting surgery) and since having them when I ask at MRI / CT scans they have always told me that they cant comment and are not trained to see, and cant say if they saw anything.

At my last scan my spleen was pushed up 90 degress, my pancreas has been pushed, my kidney is down below my ribs where my intestines should be, and I have an enourmous mass in the middle where all these parts should be.... and the person doing the scan "couldnt see" if anything was abnormal, and "was not trained" to read them.

(seeing these same scans with my consultant you couldnt not see)

I now take all these "we cant see anything / not trained to comment) as bad news. So would take yours as more likely to be good, as when its obviously bad, they absolutely keep their mouth shut and give nothing away.
They are also more likely to say "make sure you follow up with your Dr who has ordered the scans"
