Blood glucose levels, mmol/mol vs mmol/l vs HbA1c percentage

Anyone know how to convert these into each other?

I got a result recently of 32 mmol/mol on my NHS app from a recent test

Google says this is ok, perfectly within range but my Samsung Health app asks me to put a result in which is mmol/l which seems to be 5.1%

When I put that into the app as a result it comes up as orange which seems to imply its in the higher range, which of course its not

When I google my result to ask for the HbA1c result it says around 5.3 and I can enter this into my app which again it comes up as orange

Im of the understanding that my blood sugars are very good?

5.1% is in the old HbA1C units. We use a more modern way of measuring. There are converters online.

I forgot to say that the Samsung app wants it entered as a decimilised figure so that 5.1 would be what I put in is it?

Is that the same as mmol/l ?

Thanks, the app is asking for mmol/l

It seems to be a percentage figure.

No, it’s mmol/mol, which is slightly different. The important thing is your 32 is completely normal 😊

NiceCupOfChai · 28/01/2026 17:07

32 is a very normal result, excellent control. The app is being odd.

BreatheAndFocus · 28/01/2026 17:10

i wonder if the app is asking for a fingerprick blood test result? Those are in mmol/L.

Oh yes I know its normal, Im trying to enter it into my samsung app and its asking for mmol/l which seems to be a percentage figure, so what do I put in?

Is it 5.1 the same as the HbAc1 figure?

Mmol/L would be a fingerprick reading. You can’t convert/compare that directly to an HbA1C. Putting it as 5.5mmol/L would be a rough approximation.

soupyspoon · 28/01/2026 17:25

So 32 mmol/mol is the same as 5.1 HbA1c and probably the same as 5.5mmol/l?

What a faff, not sure why Im bothering, just trying to put my stats in the app
