Loads and loads of water is my best tip. I drink 8-10 pints a day. Important to make sure that it is not mineral water which can put too much Calcium into your body - I drink tap water as much as I can.
Alcohol is processed by the liver, so doesnt put as much strain on the kidneys, but prob a good idea to avoid. Have they told you the reason for your stone? Some people have what are called oxylate stones, and there is a very specific diet which can help a lot - mostly men have this though! Or it can be caused by problems with your parathyroid gland, and there is a very specific blood test for this (needs your blood frozen - quite specialised). Or you can get Urate stones from too concentrated urine, its the stuf in uring getting so cincentrated that it turns into crystals.
Mine were hormaonal - the lining of my kidney reacted to being pg, and formed thousands (I am not joking!) of teeny grains of sand, which I had to pass. I had a stent fitted at 32 weeks pg, but it got badly infected and had to come out. Had another 6 months pp, which also got infected.
You can feel the stent sometimes - I hated it. Made me jump when I sat down! When it was taken out there were loads and loads of clots and cuts in my bladder - it made me incontinent as well, which was awful.
Try to find out what kind of stones you have.It can make a huge difference to treatment. DO you get urine infections as well.

Take care, it does make you very very washed out and tired, a kidney stone is a major illness and you need to recuperate.
Take care!
