For about the last month, I have been having a lot of wheezing /rasping in my chest, but not coughing anything up. mostly happens at night. sometimes have a squirt of the DCs inhaler.

it is disturbing my sleep as i am making all sorts of funny wheezy/ squeaky noises , so i wake myself up or DH is giving me a big kick gentle nudge.

yes, i know i need to go to the docs, but i don;t feel ill!!

if it is disturbing your sleep, then you need to get something for it.

It could be a touch of asthma - it is possible I think for it to develop in adulthood.

It could be dustmites (not that I'm in any way implying that you don't dust )

You could be a bit allergic to something...

or I suppose you could always cut down on the fags to 40 a day

I use Olbas Oil or Karvol on my pillow usually. This might help you.

Or it might not.

diplodocus · 13/06/2008 20:27

It certainly can develop in adulthood. I developed it very mildly for about 5 years in my 30s - now gone again. It was always about this time of year, and while I didn't have tests was told there was a particular tree pollen about that was often responsible.

Used to have the odd squirt of salbutamol, which sorted it.

fryalot · 13/06/2008 20:29

is the dc's inhaler helping?

When ds was wheezy and coughy at night, the doc said that they couldn't do any tests on him, so gave him an inhaler with the advice that if it worked, it was asthma. If it didn't, it was something else.

So... if the inhaler works, tis asthma. If not, it's summat else

lulumama · 13/06/2008 20:30

i find the inhaler helps, albeit briefly and i am still squeaky and rattly !!

i sound delightful!

i take daily antihistamine, no other symtoms....no runny nose etc..

thank you all x

I never got any other symptoms either - weird eh!
If you go to the Dr they might try you on low-dose inhaled steroids for a bit.

lulumama · 13/06/2008 21:33

thank you , i shall go as soon as i can next week

Could be asthma, Lulu. A couple of colleagues of mine were recently diagnosed... both in their 40's.

Not that I'm implying you look a day over 21, of course!

lulumama · 14/06/2008 08:20

am in my early, note early 30s!

well, i shall go the docs, and see... funnily enough, was not so bad last night, and i had a decent sleep.

right, been to the docs.

I have a chest infection. which is odd as i didn't feel poorly. and i have to do a peak flow for 2 weeks and then go back as he thinks it is asthma.. but possibly connected to the pollen count.

so am taking my ABs and wait to see what happens when i go back.
