What is this clear fluid?

I have a 14 week old DD who has been a pretty sicky baby since I stopped BF at 8 weeks. I swapped to hungrier baby stage formular at 10 weeks which made her sicker so I swapped back to first stage and feeds seem to be established at 5 in 24 hours. I am using Aptamil. In between feeds DD seems to be vomitting lots and lots of just clear fluid. Ideas or experience anyone?

sorry I dont know what it is just wanted to bump for you. It's still quite early I am sure you will get more responses later today.

sorry, don?t like to see this go unanswered! I don?t have an answer but I would be phoning my HV/GP to check if there is frequently lots and lots of it. Sounds a little strange to me - way beyond the usual baby clear dribble. Mine used Aptimil and any vomiting was always always milky.
Hopefully someone else will be able to give better advice or have direct experience x

think you should contact your out of hours GP service or NHS 24. Its best to get little ones like yours checked out quickly as they can become dehydrated in a fairly short period of time.

i would take her to the doctors immediately if you have not already done so.. also, 5 feeds in 24 hours does not sound a lot for a 4 month old

the hungrier baby milk is harder to digest and can give babies tummy ache.. unless she is draining a full bottle every time and does not seem satisfied, then first stage milk will suffice

any chance you can get breastfeeding going again? you can relactate if you really go for it.

but vomiting clear fluid does not sound good

are you giving her water between feeds?

agree lulumama, I hope this baby got to see a doctor last night.

My dd had this and hv told me it was some impirities from the nose that manage to be swallowed and affected her lungs...But she was fine despite this.she advised me to put some humid towells over the heater to make the air moisture and use a nasal spary if needed.Hope this helps....but have a talk with your gp/health visitor.and look for signs of dehidratation as fritymum very well said.
good luck.

She is a happy little thing. She does have constant mucus in what sounds like her chest. May be it is the impuritues from the nose thing with her lungs. She has 5 x 7oz feeds during the day then sleeps for 11 hours so that is all night. She weighs 16lb at 14 weeks so I think the feeds are enough?

When I took her to the HC two weeks ago she said the clear fluid was stomach acid but she didn't tell me to do anything about it. Now it hasn't I was just wondering if anyone had any previous experience of it.... now I am worried. Perhaps I'll make a GP appointment on Monday.

It seems that you have been given mixed messages - stomach acids and mucous from her nose.
Does she have a cough, wheeze or seem breathless?
When does she vomit?
Is it preceded by coughing?
Does she have a runny nose?
I think you need to have her reviewed by your Gp or nurse prationer.

samsmam · 14/06/2008 10:50

she does have a cough but it sounds chesty.
She vomits about one to two after feeds. and it is just clear.
I will make appointment on monday.

sometimes my dd vomited after feeds and it was just the impurities type of thing, but to doble check you should see your gp/hv.Even now, aged 3, she still has this when she has a cold.
There are some medicines that can help both acid in the stomac and blocked nose but you need prescription.
Hope it works for you and your little lady.

Thank you will let you know how i get on
