I’ve been anemic for a few years with unknown origin causing it.

This is still the case but now my platelets and RBC have gone really high? Plus have lost 10kg without trying or changing anything.

Have got a follow up GP appt but it’s weeks away, so I’m going to push for a quicker one I think …

Also, has anyone experienced this?

Oh no! That's too long to wait. If you are close enough, let them know you'll accept a short-notice cancellation slot... obviously only if you don't need to make arrangements.

Yes I’m across the road, so will call them and do as you suggest Joy x it’s with the endoscopic / colerectal / gall bladder general surgeon guy.

It's been over a week. Chase again if you have the energy.

"Oh hi, I haven't heard back from you so I just wanted to check that you had got my message that I'm prepared to come in at short notice if you have a cancellation. I'm feeling really unwell and scared that it's cancer so if there's any way I can be seen before May, I would be really grateful. "

Just a suggestion; use your own words.

Thanks Joy, I’ve made the call, but as the weeks tick on, the booked appointment on 5/5/26 becomes closer. I’ve got a feeling they might discuss a stent being fitted into my duct while at the same time take a biopsy, but let’s see … will update when I know xx

Ok … UPDATE time .. just had appointment with consultant following investigations that happened during Feb / March …

In addition to the dilated CBD (common bile duct), I have two cysts in my pancreas.

Given my liver function blood test results are good and I’m in no pain, and visually the dilation and cysts don’t look sinister, he wants to do another MRI next February and see if they have changed / got worse at that point. In the interim he wants me to have blood tests maybe in the Summer and next Winter to check my liver function levels and if things have got worse, I’ll go back in sooner to recheck MRI. I haven’t lost any further weight since January. I’m getting my iron levels checked under GP later this week.

It’s given me a wobble tbh, as basically could be cancer, but its not at the stage yet to surgically go in and do anything … they want to see if it grows or deteriorates first.

Joy etc, what are your thoughts? Has already crossed my mind to consider second opinions … xx. I’ve already made conscious decision for health kick this year to prepare my body for what might come 🙏🏻.

Oh how frustrating. How do you feel in yourself? Is it true that your weight is stable? Are you able to eat properly?

jjourneys · 06/05/2026 11:49

I guess we at least know potentially what’s going on, and we have fairly structured monitoring in place over the next year or two, and if no change for 5 years, they reduce the monitoring further. But looks like annual MRIs and quarterly bloods, to check worsening, and if it does worsen then they can take action quickly.

Ive requested my medical records so I can get a bit more detail on the MRI results / type and placement of pancreatic cysts etc, as apparently they can tell this from the MRI and these are significant to know re whether they can turn pre cancerous.

They weighed me on a seat scale and I was 56kg still (in clothing and shoes).

But physically, how do you feel? Are you unwell? In pain?

As they seem reasonably confident of what's going on, my main focus would be on what can be done to relieve symptoms. But if you're not satisfied that what they said explains all your symptoms then I might be tempted to get a second opinion.

How are you doing?

jjourneys · Today 16:45

Hey Joy :)

Thanks for checking in … well consultant confirmed my bloods were reflective of the pancreatic / bile duct cysts causing issues, but they don’t start taking further action surgically until they effect my liver parameters.

So I’m having a health kick, considering going vegan, and have booked my blood test appointments to include liver parameters for the next year.

I’ve got a feeling that these little buggers are going to need keeping on top of (and not forgetting about for multiple years!), so am making sure the plan stays in place. Rather than wait 2/3/4 years and then end up with stage 4 pancreatic cancer!

How are you doing?
