HRT or testosterone for brain fog ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

Hi ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm struggling with horrible brain fog and Iโ€™m not sure whatโ€™s causing it. My thyroid levels are good. Iron, b12, vitamin D are great too.

Iโ€™m in my late 40s, so perimenopause seems likely. My sexโ€‘hormone results came back normal, but I know that during perimenopause those numbers can be hard to interpret.

Iโ€™m wondering if HRT or testosterone has helped anyone in this situation. Are there other things that were useful for you in managing brain fog? ๐Ÿ™

HRT worked a treat for me. I've heard it's not very easy to get testosterone, especially without the other components of HRT

Definitely HRT.

I would also recommend creatine. One of my doctors recommended it for brain fog. Mine is caused by ME/CFS. I was surprised to hear this because it is usually used for muscle building. I have been taking it for a few weeks and I noticed an improvement straight away.

You can't have testosterone until you have balanced your HRT oestrogen first.

T Hasn't helped my brain fog at all though!

I always forget to add the creatine to my breakfast. Perhaps I should start. I always remember vitamin d/K2 so don't know why I forget the creatine.

Definitely start on HRT and see if it helps. Iโ€™m on HRT, testosterone and take 5g of creatinine every day and I think these all help with brain fog. As a previous poster said, you need to be on HRT for a few months before you can start testosterone.

Hrt definitely, and at your age, you don't need a blood test to confirm peri, as per the NICE guidelines. Your GP should just prescribe it.

Unanimous vote for HRT then ๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™d never heard of creatine in the context of brain health before. Worth trying as well ๐Ÿ™

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜

I'm on testosterone via NHS (and despite what other posters have said, I'm not on HRT, and never have been). I'm not sure about the brain fog, but it has helped in other areas, let's just say....

Creatine I am hearing lots of good things about - both for exercise/muscles and for sharper brain function. I'm wondering about taking it myself.

@CointreauVersial

Good to hear that testosterone has helped you ๐Ÿ˜

What made your GP prescribe it rather than HRT? I donโ€™t have the typical peri/menopause symptoms (no hot flashes, night sweats or vaginal dryness). My libido is still present, though a little boost wouldnโ€™t hurt ๐Ÿ˜…

But the main issue for me is the brain fog ๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ

I am in HRT, was on it for 15 months and brain fog got worse. Was put on testosterone and within a week or so I was back to my old self.

Long story.....early menopause, followed by endometrial (oestrogen-sensitive) cancer and full hysterectomy. So HRT just not appropriate, but the menopause clinic were happy to prescribe testosterone, specifically for low libido.

@SumTingWongwithme

Oh no! Thanks for sharing your experience, especially since itโ€™s so different from what others have posted. Iโ€™m glad to hear you eventually had success with testosterone ๐Ÿ˜Š

@CointreauVersial

It sounds like youโ€™ve been through a lot with your health. Itโ€™s good that adding testosterone at least led to one positive outcome ๐Ÿ˜

I was told canโ€™t take testosterone until on estrogen first to see if that resolves issues first

Saved to my bookmarks last year ๐Ÿ˜…:
"The effects of creatine supplementation on cognitive function in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis".

I have no recollection of even looking into creatine ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Thanks for the reminder!
