Can I just ask for an x-ray?

An osteopath I see regularly, and who generally keeps me in working order despite my insistence on taking on stupid sporting challenges, has said he suspects a stress fracture in my hip and I should have an xray to rule that out.

If I tell my GP surgery that, will they arrnage one for me or will I need to see a GP who agrees with the osteopath first?

IME the GP's first response for anything musculoskeletal is pain relief and rest, but I've been doing that.

You will need to see your GP.

Best in mind that doctors request x rays, they do not order them.

Is it not an MRI you need for a stress fracture?

Not sure if the NHS would cover this. With experience a stress fracture heals in around 6-8 weeks if you manage it correctly. It would probably take that long to get a scan (or much, much longer) as it’s not something urgent.

My physio just treated mine as a suspected stress fracture due to some diagnostic tests (not scans) and said no running for around 8 weeks. I could walk on mine though.
