Deep gum clean

Hi. I’m 72 years old and have just been advised by my dentist I need to see a periodontist for a deep clean. My first check up with him will be £175 and he will give me an estimate for treatment needed. I’m just wondering if people who have had this treatment have found it works and is worth the hundreds of pounds it’s going to cost. Obviously I don’t want to loose any teeth but also don’t want to waste money. Any advice will be welcome.

I had a deep clean and antibiotics for gum disease a year ago and it was worth every penny as I had bleeding gums which I could not stop with the regular clean by the dentist. Wish I had done it sooner. Gums are in great health now but I had already suffered recession and some bone loss.

I’ve had this done for years by my NHS dentist for ongoing gum disease and gum recession. I have it done in two sessions every six months as I require local anaesthetic. I’ve one loose tooth but it’s no worse now than twenty years ago. My gum pockets and X-rays are stable.
Costs me about £60!

I can’t find a NHS dentist locally so have been going to a private practice. 😢😢
