DS seems absolutley fine in himself - had breakfast fine and is rushing around but he has developed a number of 'one-off' ie not in clusters fluid filled blisters on his body. There have 4 cases of the pox at nursery in the last week. I'm guessing it probably is but I expected him to be 'ill' - am I just lucky?? or is worse to come???

Sounds like the pox to me.
My DS had it at 21 months didn't bother him at all at first but did have a couple of uncomfortable nights once they started itching 3ish days later.
Stock up with Eurax cream and bicarb of soda for bath times

Thnaks - I'm almost convinced now just expected more of a temp/general illness - thanks for the tip about the cream

Yes, sounds like chicken pox. They look like cold sores when they blister and can keep coming out for a few days. My ds had it vey mildly and was back at school 5 days after first spot appeared. My daughter had more spots and was very red and hot looking for 24 hours or so a couple of days after the spots first started appearing. Neither of mine would have calamine lotion on and I think they took one dose of piriton each then refused more.

At least you get it out of the way whilst he is young. Hope it's not too severe

Thanks all - he's got a few more spots this evening which I think are a bit sore and starting to itch- so far he seems ok in himself eating well etc . We've dosed him up with piriton and coated him in Eurax lotion so we'll just have to see what tomorrow brings (more spots I suspect!!!!)

My 1 yr old has a couple of red spots on his body - i thought they might be bites yesterday - and childminder has just texted me to say she suspects chicken pox. Trouble is we are due to fly to a wedding tomorrow, back on Monday, what do I do? He only has a couple of spots and it's only a 30 min flight but do I risk it?

If the airline knew your child had chickenpox, they wouldn't let you fly. If you do, you risk not being able to fly back until all the spots have crusted over (could be a week), as the spots will probably multiply and become obvious to check in staff. Your child might also get ill while you are there - my children didn't start getting temperatures until days 3-5: were totally healthy and happy until then, except for the blisters. And last but not least, you might expose a pregnant woman or elderly person with low immune system to the virus while on the flight or at the wedding and certainly wouldn't be thanked for that, as it can, eg, cause miscarriage in women who have not had chickenpox before. So, I would say you definitely shouldn't take the risk.

Couldn't you take your child to the GP to check it is definitely chickenpox? (Although if any of the spots at all have turned into little fluid filled blisters, then the chances of it being anything else are remote to zero).
