Would you wait? TW blood clots

Hi, looking for advice or similar stories.

In the last week of Nov 25, I started spotting- less than 2 weeks after having my Evra patch free week and having my normal period. I carried on using my patch correctly and bleeding persisted with some days been heavier. This continued for the entire of December and in to January.

I went to my GP on the 9th who carried out pelvic exam and took swabs. All results normal. And referred me for USS

However on Sunday 11th Jan I started bleeding a lot heavier than previous weeks and come Monday afternoon I started passing some clots. Now on Wednesday and I am persistently gushing fresh red blood and large clots that I have to push out.
My GP told me not to go back until after the ultrasound but I don't know whether to go back before hand due to increase in flow and size of clots that have been coming every 15-30 minutes since Tuesday evening.
Sorry for TMI- Attached photo of 2 clots but no where near the biggest.

Thank you of you made it this far.

Yes, go back.

Unless you feel, weak, dizzy or short of breath in which case it’s an A and E job.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 14/01/2026 19:33

As above.

unsync · 14/01/2026 19:34

How old are you? When I was in my forties, my clots were like chunks of liver. In speaking to friends, I wasn't the only one.

Have you done a pregnancy test at all? I had clots like that when having a miscarriage. Very heavy bleeding that lasted quite a long time. Something to consider?

Sbmpp · 15/01/2026 00:40

Go back.

Hi, yes, definitely not pregnant. However going to try and get an urgent appointment this morning as I got up and passed a clot the size of my palm and the bleeding is soaking through sanitary products in 15 minutes.
Thanks for your reply

This is a lot of blood to be losing- if you can't get an urgent appointment then go to A+E. This needs investigating urgently.

Yes, the clot this morning was very alarming. And the blood loss is making me feel quite lethargic. Back at GP at 11am, so hopefully get an idea of what is causing it.

Please make sure you are having a good iron tablet/ supplement regardless. I became severely anaemic when I was losing heavily.

That's good you have an appointment soon but if you start feeling very drowsy call an ambulance. Are you alone?

GP should hopefully refer you into an emergency gynae unit so they can investigate as that much blood loss in such a short space of time cannot wait for investigation.

Hope you can get sorted soon!

PinkSloth17 · 15/01/2026 18:23

Was advised by GP to go to A&E and was seen by a gynae Dr. He told me there was too much blood to examine so I've been prescribed Trancemic Acid for 5 days and told to wait for my scan appointment on the 29th. Hopefully this helps at least slow it down and lessen the clots.
Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond to my post 😌

What is your haemoglobin level?

🤷🏻‍♀️ they didn't really tell me anything I was in and out with the gynae Dr in about 10 minutes. Sent me for prescription and said I could go home. Hospital phoned me about an hour and a half after leaving asking if I was still in the hospital, as he hadn't told them he'd sent me home.
He did however tell me that he was hypoglycemic and needed sugar as he was having trouble concentrating 🥴 just hope nothings been missed as my bloods were only taken minutes before he called me. Not sure how long blood results take to come back in A&E?

Bloods are often back to A and E within an hour

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 16/01/2026 13:26

I had clots like this in my early 40s and it turned out I had fibroids which needed removing. Definitely get some medical advice today, and rest a lot as you’re losing a lot of blood.

Just very sleepy and slightly breathless today. was a struggle to get up and get kids ready for school but I got my Mum to have my 2 year old and I have just slept most of the day. Blood loss has reduced significantly but still getting some clots. BP and heart rate still slightly elevated by practice nurse told me it may take a couple of days to stabilise 🤞🏻

My own recent experience suggests that you need to find out if they checked your haemoglobin levels, and if not, you should get it checked - urgently.

I was recently sent to A&E by my GP for suspected anaemia following gynae bleeding, and ended up in resus, being told I was critical, and having three lots of blood transfused. I really didn't realise how sick I was. I could hardly have been sicker.

CoatiCutie · 16/01/2026 20:18

I agree.... Being very sleepy and breathless with blood loss would have me down a&e

Ikeatears · 16/01/2026 21:12

@MoonOnTheRain I’ve just been on your thread to see an update. Hope you’re feeling much better. This thread made me think of you. @PinkSloth17I would seriously think about A and E

Thanks. I'm home now. Still technically below normal haemoglobin, on super strong iron supplements, and getting there day by day. The whole thing was pretty shocking at the time. Few other bits in the hospital that were overwhelming too, but I am incredibly grateful for the care I had from all the nurses and doctors, and support from online friends as well as family.
