Out of the blue (possible) seizure?

Really just trying to get my head around this. So on Friday, heading north on the train and for about 40 minutes I have no recollection of the journey. That’s to say I can remember what I was doing, then the next thing is the train station staff are trying to get me off the train - that’s about 40 minutes after I last remember anything.

The whole thing feels very surreal, and I’ve had to get back in touch with the station staff to confirm it did actually happen. They didn’t say I had passed out, but had to help me up from the floor and I wasn’t making any sense. Some how they managed to unlock my phone and ring my wife who came and got me. One wasted 10 hour visit to the hospital later I was home and as if nothing ever happened.

I have had a few days to process everything, and I still can’t quite figure it all out. The hospital did say I would need to inform the DVLA and I wouldn’t be allowed to drive for a while. I can kind of understand that in one respect, but then on the other I’m not actually sure what happened. I was really tired, I had managed about 5 hours sleep over 2 nights, but otherwise everything was fine before and is back to normal again.

I am not sure what I am looking for from this post, maybe just a sense check

@ProudScot84- I feel for you (I’ve got epilepsy which was only diagnosed 2 years ago). Good luck with the tests - it sounds like you’re in good hands.
Tye neuro told me 5 years for anti -seizure meds if no seizures but I’m not sure I ever want to come off them.

Just another update on this.

6 days after first neurologist meeting, been in and had an MRI. Within a few hours of the scan, I was asked to come back and see the neurologist. She dropped the bomb that it looked like the MRI was showing a Glioma.

Fast forward another few hours, seen a neuro surgeon and he’s working on the view I have a grade 2 or 3 Glioma. Covers more than half of the left hand side of my brain (which ties in with my symptoms) and surgery isn’t an option. Waiting for him to get back to me with treatment plan and a way forward.

All happening very quick and quite sureal. Been a good day to day though with my family - and I’ve felt almost normal…!

I am so sorry to see your update, that must have been such a shock. I hope you're managing to look after yourself - thinking of you ❤️

I’m so sorry @ProudScot84 - what a shock - I wish you all the best with your treatment.

stayathomegardener · 31/01/2026 23:25

Shocking update, thinking about you OP.

Isadora2007 · 31/01/2026 23:27

Oh goodness I have just read this whole thread and whilst it did indeed sound like a seizure to me I was not expecting the news you had been diagnosed with a brain tumour. What a shock for you. I’m so sorry. I hope you have something nice planned for the time in between now and knowing your treatment plan as it will drag by im sure…

ProudScot84 · 01/02/2026 05:20

Thanks for the comments everyone. I suspect it’s not yet sunk in as I feel I’m acting reasonably normal.

All I can do is take one day at a time and see what happens.

Oh no. I had been thinking about you. What an absolute shock. I don’t really know what to say. All I can say is do is send best wishes and thoughts.

Taylot · 05/02/2026 18:44

@ProudScot84 how are you doing? Hope you're getting some answers

gototogo · 05/02/2026 18:49

Thinking of you op. Alas o know someone who had almost the same experience and diagnosis. Take care

ProudScot84 · 05/02/2026 21:17

Thanks all for checking in.

Yeah I am ok. Got the news of a follow up appointment on the 16th Feb, so not too long to wait and hear what sort of treatment I can have.

I know it’s important to put health first, but I’m really struggling with not working. It’s my identity and what I do - the thought of that being ripped away (I’ve done my role for 18 years, since I was 23) is just cruel - and that, which may sound silly is the biggest issue for me.

So sorry to hear this OP and I hope that it turns out to be less aggressive when they look at it properly. I think your treatment will take over from your work - people tell me being ill is a full time job in itself.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope your appointment goes as well as it can. Forget about work. It’s not who you are. You’re much, much more than that. Focus on yourself and look after yourself.

Sending you every best wish xx
