Never ending sickness

Just curious if others experience the same pattern. Every January, we tend to get unusually sick. Last year, my eldest was hospitalised with the flu while I was 38 weeks pregnant, and my husband and I also caught it and we could not leave the bed. My parents had to come help us because we were unable to move. This January, my 10-month-old was hospitalised with a UTI, and now we all have norovirus, which has been terrible, so sick that we're only drinking water when we can drink at all. Is it just us?? I can't bloody believe that every year we turn like this!!!

Its normal when you have young children they catch loads of viruses.

I know and you’re right … it’s just getting to a point where I feel ashamed to tell people we’re constantly sick 😆

We don’t get sick very often as a family really but when we do, yes, it does tend to be between November and February. Pretty easy to see why- warmer houses breeding germs, outdoors less often and less fresh air circulating indoors.

We have not got sick at all for the last 6 years, but we still wear FFP2 masks in crowded indoor spaces and have HEPA air filters at home. There are hundreds of research papers now on the long term damage of repeated COVID infections particularly.

Before I had children I could go several years without even a cold but as soon as my kids went to school they would pick up every virus and bug going. I started to absolutely hate winter.

They are young adults now and things are much better, although I don't think my immune system has ever fully recovered from the constant batterings.

I hope you all feel better soon, roll on summer.

Have you checked your home for mould? Me and my children we sick every year , all the time. When I moved out they found a lot of damp and damage I would never or seen if they weren’t ripping the place apart. Since moving other than the usual slight cold etc we have been fine.

I totally sympathise, we also have this. My DC bounce back fairly quickly but I've been ill now for three weeks with no improvement. Every year around Christmas is the same - for several years we were all ill for Christmas day itself, and it because a running joke that we were waiting to see which one of us would be first to start feeling poorly...

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t think of that. We actually moved into this new house last year, so second winter in here, and it definitely needs refurbishment so probably that’s also a factor to consider 🙏

Sending love. I have a 3 & 5 year old. Jan 2023 DD had RSV, last year I had horrific flu where I physically couldn’t get out of bed and then this year we’ve had the most brutal noro I’ve lost half a stone as still now 6 days later I can barely eat. It’s really overwhelming. Xx
