When to go to GP for digestive symptoms?

For around 3/4 months have had weird digestive symptoms, mainly urgency and change in consistency, and a feeling of incompleteness or constantly feeling the need to go. Have also recently been feeling lack of appetite and interest in food, which I've noticed when planning meals for the week etc. Tried probiotics but that made it worse. They are vague symptoms but worth going to GP?

I would. Can you pinpoint anything that may have triggered it?

ShrubRose · 12/01/2026 17:51

Yes, go to GP. Let them do some tests. Hope easily resolved.

Cheeseaandchillibread · 12/01/2026 17:53

Go now and ask for a Fit stool test. Don't be fobbed off. Chances are it will be nothing, but you need to check it out.

armquestion · 12/01/2026 17:53

Nothing triggered it afaik...we have young kids so there are always bugs going around so I think I was just assuming it was that but then realised that I felt this way at my birthday party early November and it's been consistent

Yes get it checked.

All these symptoms could be something or nothing.

armquestion · 12/01/2026 17:56

Thanks. Feeling a bit freaked out now! Have been hoping it would pass on its own

Don't be freaked out. As PP said, could be something or nothing. Sometimes they even do a FIT test and it comes out positive and there's nothing there - false positive. Whatever it is, better to deal with it sooner rather than later.

Yes, please go. Always best to check these things out, even if it’s nothing sinister.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 12/01/2026 18:27

Yes anything over a few weeks requires a review.

As someone that ignored symptoms for too long…. Go to gp now! I’m cancer free (stage 3) and about to finish my last round of chemo. Don’t put it off, the earlier the better for detection and treatment x

Thanks everyone x
I've got an appt booked for next week.
After doing some more thinking, I think it's most likely a cyst. I have PCOS and have always had a lot of asymptomatic cysts, and I have the symptoms - urinary/bowel frequency and changes, constant feeling of fullness, etc. I was actually in and out of the GP and A&E over the summer with intermittent extreme lower right side pain and chronic UTI symptoms, but was given antibiotics and an urgent gynae referral which I'm still waiting for.
