Does anyone have any miracle cures for this dreaded cough virus that’s doing the rounds? As if I wasn’t aching all over enough, I’ve now coughed so much that my chest and stomach muscles have been pulled. Tried the usual painkillers, honey lemon etc but lying here under two duvets feeling so miserable and unable to cough without pain!

Humidifer can help coughs.

I had the same. Sounds old school but try a basin of very hot water and a towel over your head to create a little steam bath.

This has easily been in the top 5 of miserable events in my life.

Yep, I have nearly come to the end of a nasty cough. I had the very worst of it last month while 6 months pregnant. My stomach muscles hurt so bad! Fortunately a lot better now. It's so miserable but I promise you it will get better. I didn't do any steaming as I was wiped out from the cold. Apart from a Vick's nasal inhaler, I basically roughed it. I checked my temperature every day to keep an eye out for a fever, fortunately no fever.

I’d like to know too, I’ve never had such a bad cough,

Benylin Original from the pharmacy, not the one on the shelf. It makes you a bit drowsy so you get a good nights sleep.

Drink lots and lots of water / herbal tea / hot honey, ginger and lemon. It loosens the secretions so you can cough it all up. I really sympathise, it's dreadful.

Cocodamol at bedtime - the codeine relaxes muscles so you don't cough as much (if at all) giving you much needed respite. But do remain propped up rather than being flat.

Liquorice sweets or lozenges. Hot drinks. Combine those two with Liquorice tea, Marks and Spencer have a fennel liquorice one that is lovely. If you like liquorice of course.

Its usually post nasal drip
Get a Nasal rinse kit
Sterimar
Wash your sinuses out and it usually clears in a couple of days.
Obviously if secretions are yellow or green see your GP
