Lymph node pain after drinking

Weirdquestion1 · 03/01/2026 13:20

Comes on in minutes after only a sip or two. Pain in neck, shoulders and top of legs. I have never been able to drink.
Just googled it and Dr Google came up with a Lymphoma side effect. But I had this pain the first time I tried alcohol about 30 years ago and on the few occasions since.
Please can I ask if anyone else has it and if there are any reasons given? Would love to be able to drink half a glass of wine socially.

Posted in chat too. Hoping someone has an answer. I will stay away from Dr Google!

Have you ever mentioned it to your GP?

How do you know it’s your lymph nodes?

If you've had it for 30 years I think you're alright.

GPs are a bit busy right now for random pains that people have had for decades.

Op didn't say she was't alright nor that she was going to see her gp. She wants to be able to have a glass of wine and after 30 years of not being able to drink i think it's perfectly ok to ask on mn for ideas.

My lymph nodes would ache the next day after drinking when I had lymphoma but I also had other symptoms, mainly drenching night sweats, weight loss and constant infections. If you’re generally well in yourself, then I would be thinking that there’s some other reason.

I ache across my neck and chest, upper arms, after a few too many wines. I’ve had this for as long as I can remember. I’m not saying it’s normal but I don’t think it’s anything urgent to worry about - probably a stronger than normal reaction to alcohol?

My husband used to get this too. I get the leg aches. I think it’s just an intolerance to alcohol!

Thank you for the reply and so sorry you had this.

I had another horrible health incident after an injury so spent months in hospital. Nothing came up about other issues and I don’t have any of the classic symptoms. I also have had the rapid onset pains since the first time I tried to drink 30 odd years ago and on any occasion since.

Best wishes.

Thanks, I definitely wouldn’t make an appointment for this given I have had it for decades. If it was the first time and I had other symptoms, then of course. Just never met anyone with the same issue (know of a few who blush or feel ill, but this is pain within minutes and can be from literally a sip).
