Can my nail regrow without this split?

My right thumb nail grows with a little vertical split at the end, in the middle of the nail. When I trim it short, I can see that the thin layer of skin directly under the nail looks slightly damaged which I suspect is what’s causing it to grow like this. It’s not painful but often the split nail will catch on clothes etc. Is there any way of healing it so it grows normally again?

I started taking collagen 3 months ago and my nails are amazing and the vertical splits are no longer there!

I’ve wondered about collagen but there’s so many different types…. What do you use @Trumpton?

I had this and used Vaseline hand and nail cream and really massaged it into the nail regularly and it helped enormously, as well as keeping the nail fairly short.

Nail buffer!
They usually have three or four
different levels of buffing on them. Use it to buff over the split and then use the shine buff and do regularly it usually helps! Apply hand cream regularly to keep moisturised.

Split nails like this can be a sign of autoimmune disease

crossedlines · 31/12/2025 20:24

Thank for the tips- I’ll get buffing

I’ve got one nail that’s been like this for years. Large ridge all the way down the middle and splits at the top. I’ve given up trying now and just keep them short
