Recurring utis

Hi all, anyone got any advice on how to help with constant utis? I have no pain but the need to go is constant and I never feel like I get rid of one. I am not sure whether it is that or overactive bladder. Can the pharmacist test for this? TIA.

I started to drink decaffeinated tea when I had a similar issue which sorted me out.

D mannose

Don't know your age but it could be a menopause symptom, genito urinary syndrome of menopause. Treated with estrogen cream (ovestin) and pessaries (vagifem or gina), I've had years of this but largely resolved through using both cream and pessaries at night. Doctor can prescribe. Hope that helps.

Have you had a course of antibiotics longer than 3 days? I would go back and demand a 7 day one and a culture to check it is the right one.

if that doesn’t cure it you need to look at hormonal issues or interstitial cystitis (which can be triggered by recurrent utis)

if you’re in perimenopause try vaginal oestrogen.

i have I have had IC/PBS symptoms since my twenties and even had a bladder op. I had the Mirena coil fitted and all symptoms disappeared almost overnight. Hormones impact the area massively.

D Mannose. Plus, as above, if you are of peri menopause/ menopause age you should use vagifem pessaries. The bladder needs oestrogen. It has helped me.

Op they desperate. I had an awful one. My friend bought me cranberry tabs high dosage. Says they helped her. Im 50s. Im on vagifem too

Another vote for D mannose tablets! I had recurrent UTIs throughout my 20s, started taking them and never had one since!

Get a proper diagnosis/referral to urology if needed

It may be a menopause thing, it may be OAB, or an embedded UTI, or interstitial cystitis, or more than one thing.

I’ve been having bladder installations for repeat UTIs/interstitial cystitis and they have definitely helped with the acute UTI symptoms, but I still struggle with frequency, so I’m thinking of looking into vaginal oestrogen as an add on

D Mannose can help with UTI symptoms on the meantime

hiprex has been my lifesaver

Oestrogen cream and give up alcohol and caffeine. I used to get repeated ones but only get them now if I drink wine or too much coffee.
