My dd has recently had 2 courses of antibiotics and after she finished the course I noticed she had a slight cream/white discharge around her girly bits. She also had white patches in her mouth. So I took her to the doctor who said it was thrush and prescribed daktarin for her mouth and clotrimazole cream for her bits. I used the creams for the time the doctor said and the oral thrush cleared up but she still had a discharge. So i've taken her back to the docs who has prescribed a stonger cream for her vaginal thrush.

But in my experience of vaginal thrush you need to treat the thrush internally with a pessary or medicine like fluconazole so I don't see how an external cream is going to help. So I was wondering has anyone elses dd had this and if so how did you treat it?

I always thought that an external cream was just to sooth and had no thrush fighting benefits at all?

Hey amester. My dd had oral thrush at 4 mths old and also vaginal thrush around the same age. I was given drops for her oral problem and a cream for down below. I agree that the main reason for the cream is it helps to sootlh the area. Thrush is very common in little ones due to nappies ! I remeber when my dd was 2 days old she also had a mini period due to the hormones rushing round her body ! The way i eased my dd viginal thrush was washing with plain water and trying to leave her nappy off to let air get to the area ! Hope this helps

give her loads of natural live yoghurt and smear it over her bits as well. Her 'friendly bacteria' have been killed off by the anti biotics and you need to replenish them. DD got it a bit when she started nursery due to a-bs for earaches etc. If she has to have a-bs again fill her up with live natural yoghurt all through the course.

Thank you for your replies

Unfortunatly my little one doesn't like yogurt so I have bought her some of the infant probiotic powder and have been giving her that so hopefully that will have the same effect. If she gets enough friendly bacteria could that fight off the thrush?

I'll also try leaving her nappy off more.

Its annoying that the doctor doesn't seem to realise that a cream wouldn't fight the thrush.
