Back molar pain worried about abscess. Advice please

Since yesterday I noticed my very back bottom
molar was hurting when brushing. Now theirs a little pain when I open my
mouth around the gum. I checked and it seemed there was a little space between the tooth and gum line. I’m assuming it’s built up bacteria or even food stuck. There is a smell and this has happened once before but a quick clean at the dentist made it better. My appointment isn’t for another month and even though I’m private it’s hard to get an appointment right away.

if I get an emergency appointment it’s £90 just for the appointment. I don’t know if I can afford that this early in the month. I’m wondering if I call out of hours nhs dentist I could probably get checked at a discounted price since I do receive universal credit? Worried about it worsening and getting an abscess

I’ve had this problem. It’s worth trying a salt mouth rinse. Dissolve about half a teaspoon of table salt in half a mug of warm water, swill and spit out. I found it does relieve the pain and it does have some healing qualities AND you can repeat as needed. It does make you thirsty. Recommended by my dentist!

You need to clean out the gap where the smell is coming from. The bacteria won't shift itself. Use floss or, if you have something suitable, a metal probe. You can see what I mean by googling dental probe. Clean any trapped food and gunk, use Corsodyl or the cheaper supermarket version that has the same ingredients and also hot salt mouthwash. Mouthwash on its own won't clear it.

Do not go poking your gum with anything sharp like that. Use an interspace toothbrush.

Get a mouthwash with Chlorhexidine Digluconate in it as PP suggested. Tesco do one as do most chemists.

I have repeatedly had this issue - invest in a water flosser to help avoid the build up. I've just had to have my molar out after repeated infections.

I’m not sure you would even get an emergency appointment, they are only available when bleeding and severe pain are involved. I’ve waited for over three weeks with a broken tooth in the past and had to ring daily to get the emergency appointment at the dentist.
If there’s an infection they may give antibiotics.
Rubbing sensitive toothpaste into the area may help alleviate pain.

My appointment is in the 20th. Theirs no smell anymore but there is a dull ache around that tooth this morning. Not bad enough for pain med though . I had tea this morning which might have triggered it. I’m wondering if I should wait out until my appointment as it’s 90 quid for an emergency appointment .! I’m going to the chemist today to get at interspace toothbrush to get in the gap and corsydal mouthwash

See how you go - doesn't sound terrible at the moment. Ask for anbusol at the chemist - you rub it on and its got numbing agent in it!
