Hi, does anyone own a vagus nerve stimulator machine and have any recommendations? There are various models on the market at various prices and I don’t want to waste my money. Looking for something to help with racing heart, anxiety and poor sleep.

I’ve been looking into them the last couple of days

there are ways to work on it through easy diy ways; breathing etc

Huberman has a good list TD:DL here https://podcastnotes.org/huberman-lab/control-your-vagus-nerve-to-improve-mood-alertness-neuroplasticity-huberman-lab/

id listen to this before going further https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002c3c0?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

im on the cusp of either trying one simply because I’m on anti cancer treatment that
has anxiety and menopause as a lovely side effect. I’ve been looking at reviews on Reddit and many have mixed results. And i wondered whether to try my tens machine first.HOWEVER i’m not employing all the other things yet. I bought a vagus nerve book off amazon I’m still to read

I bought the Nurosym one a few months ago. It’s v expensive although there are a few discount codes available online and you can return it for a full refund after a month. It’s expensive but got v good reviews and is medically tested. I don’t want to risk buying a cheaper one and making my symptoms worse.

floppybit · 26/12/2025 16:54

@Aslicanhow have you found it? Is it effective?

You can use an ordinary tens machine - about 30 quid on Amazon and an ear clip which costs less than a tenner. There are peer reviewed articles on Pubmed that tell you the exact frequencies to use for proven results.
like above there is lots you can do generally too which done regularly ca. help. Stuff like humming

I just sing at the top of my lungs. Does the same job, it’s totally free and makes me feel good.

the adapted tens is what I’ve been looking into.

I find the whole thing very interesting anyway and was also considering getting a book by the one of the main researchers of it https://amzn.eu/d/1yXfnr5 (maybe when in paper back!)

the area is being explored medically for things like rheumatoid arthritis and treatment resistant depression but with implants. A podcast I heard with the author / researcher of the book did mention tens.

thank you, yes all good but the drug I have to be on for another few years is a bit pants. I also have hypothyroidism and hypermobility so figured if a tens does help, why not?

I’ve also begun to use my garmin to read my body better eg hrv, heart and breathing rates, body battery etc. Ive told myself to properly do the breathing, regularly, which is built into the watch, before spending money on things that may only have a placebo effect!

Yes I have a sensate and use it as part of my self care plan for ptsd
and anxiety. It was expensive but worth every penny - I did considerable research and its very helpful
