Husband has high CRP/inflammation what could it be?

Husband has high CRP/inflammation levels - what could it mean?

he had been having stomach issues on and off and we always linked it to anxiety - being new parents and stressful job he would have a bad tummy and diahhorea. So he had a fecal test which was normal and blood test which was all normal except CRP was in the 40s. The GP asked if he’d been injured or had surgery lately which he hadn’t. He’s had it retested a few months later and it’s no higher - in the 70s. The GP doesn’t know what it is and asked him what he wanted to do. He said he wanted to repeat the blood test but I said to him he should also ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist now.

does anyone here have experience of this? What could it be? Thank you

Could be many things, but a gastro referral sounds sensible. Do other Crohn's symptoms fit?

Raised CRP indicates inflammation somewhere but could be anywhere. Often a sign of infection but that's unlikely over a long period of time. Most likely something autoimmune, I agree a referral seems warranted.

Mines always above 50

@Blushingm do you have any conditions that cause it?

@Sillysoggyspaniel im not sure really - just had a look at the crohns symptoms. He is very slim but always has been and so is his dad. He’s not a big eater, we just always thought he was naturally slim. He has had blood in his stool in the past, stomach aches and diarrhoea but has always linked it to periods of stress.

I would ask for a referral to a specialist.

@ItsDarkNow what do you think it could be?
