How was your cystoscopy experience and what were the results?

If you don’t mind me asking. I have been referred, and for some reason I am not panicking (yet), I have had recurrent UTIs (but infection never shows up in my water tests) but I have non visible blood in my water. Plus some period-type pain in my lower back. I half wonder if it’s a gynae issue but they’ve got to start somewhere

I've just got my cystoscopy appointment through, I'm going on Thursday 19 February. Apparently its a 'two part' appointment, I start off at x-ray for the cystoscopy, and then go to Urology. I assume this is (a) to have the procedure and then (b) to get the results?

I had one several years ago and followed advice to take ibuprofen and bought a couple of new flannels which I kept filling with ice to press against the affected area for a few hours while I had a lie down. Worked really well, took all the swelling and pain away so by the end of the day felt back to normal. Actual procedure itself felt a bit of pressure and briefly uncomfortable but not painful.

I'm hoping you had an 'all clear' result?

Sorry to barge in and I’m glad you’re being taken care of by your GP but at your age it could be vaginal atrophy. The lack of estrogen causes horrible problems with the bladder and mimics a constant UTI feeling. Local estrogen cream has given me my life back xx

@Fodencat can vaginal atrophy cause blood in the water?

I’m no doctor but I guess it’s possible. Your vagina gets dry and irritated

Urethal atrophy can. If you're not on HRT, ask your GP to prescribe a topical estrogen like Vagifem.

Good luck!
You may have an ultrasound or xray first and then cystoscopy, and they should give you the results of cystoscopy straight away.

My gross haematuria and urethral swelling has now gone away, thank God for that!

No-one is really sure why it had happened, and I hope it doesn’t come back as it’s not much fun passing blood clots in your urine!
