Fractured Arm - Help!

My poor dd (2yo), has a hairline fracture in her arm. It's in a cast and a sling and she seems to be generally in good spirits. We have an appt at the hospital next week for a checkup - what can I expect? Will they be taking her cast off - another xray?? She also attends a day nursery - when will she be well enough to attend again? I obv don't want to send her back until I know it will be OK for her, and I also need to let my work know how long approx I will be off for. If anyone has experience of this in their toddler I would very much appreciate it. Thanks

Don't really know the answers to your questions. Bumping for you.

The check up is likely to include checking that she is comfortable and an xray to check the position , young kids bones tend to bend and splinter rather than breaking clean off and heal rapidly.
Is she in a full plaster? If not they are likely to put a full one on, as for going to nursery if she is comforatble and as the arm is well protected theres no reason for her not to go whenever you're ready.HTH

Poor old you and poor little Firefox. Just adding to what LaylaandSethsMum said - my son aged 3 broke his 2 weeks ago. He had a temporary cast on the day after an xray and a full cast put on the next morning. A week later they took another xray (through the plaster)to check everything was fusing together in the right position. We're due back in 14 days to hopefully have the cast off. My ds will not wear a sling but consultant seems happy with him having his arm in a downward position. DS in himself is being a complete trooper!

My ds went back to nursery who agreed to give him extra supervision. He has 1:1 anyway which is why they are able to do this.

Hope your dd feels better very soon.

Thanks for all your replies and DettaJnr for bumping it up . dd is in full plaster and is in good spirits and has even attempted to use it too. I have decided to send her back in to nursery next week after the hospital appt - assuming of course that all is well

Kids' bones mend in no time at all. Kids also 'tell it like it is', so if DD is happy and in good spirits, all is well. She wouldn't use the arm if it was hurting too much and I'm sure the nursery will have seen it all before, so I can't see why she shouldn't return. At the appt, DD may possibly get an xray most likely through the plaster but not always. Follow up appts like this are completely routine.

Rest assured, she'll be fine!
