It really is that vague, probable coeliacs although now completly gluten free, sleep for at least 12 hours every night and often naps for 2 hours in the day and is tired most of the time when awake. Behavioural problems related to being tired and grumpy.
I need to try and work out what is wrong and I have no ideas were to start.

Sleep apnoea?? Can be caused by enlarged tonsils/adenoids - does he snore or make a lot of noise when asleep?

Or....allergies? One symptom of hayfever is tiredness.

I would take him to the GP if he's that tired, though

CoteDAzur · 10/06/2008 21:51

Tell GP he is tired all the time, insist on a blood test.

electricbarbarella · 10/06/2008 21:51

She does snore actually, just got back from the doctor today, he only focused on how much better she is, which is a lot, but still has this tiredness.
She starts school in Sep and can't see how she is actually going to manage.
What exactylyt is sleep apnia.

what has gp said so far? did he have any tests yet for coeliac? I don't have any ideas i'm afraid, except that I know it is pos for young children to get chronic fatigue, but it would be a consultant diagnosis for that. maybe a referral to a paed for a thorough check up is in order?

brimfull · 10/06/2008 21:54

was she tested for diabetes?

is she excessively thirsty?

DragonsEye · 10/06/2008 21:55

definately take him to the doctor, it can be a side effect of several things, including diabetes, crohns disease, coeliacs. He really needs to be checked out.

electricbarbarella · 10/06/2008 21:55

the blood test for coeliacs was negative although we changed her diet and the improvement was so dramatic that doc supported her going luten free, she also had test for diabetes, and iron levels, her iron levels were low but she was not anemic.
She improved so much but seems to be gong back downhill very rapidly again.
Can health visitor refer her to a pead?

OP posts:
DragonsEye · 10/06/2008 21:56

oops, sorry took me ages to post that.... go back to docs, insist in blood test.

DragonsEye · 10/06/2008 21:57

sorry! x posts again!!

I would ask for referral to paeds

electricbarbarella · 10/06/2008 21:59

would it be just to a pead or someone specific, omnly people she has seen before have been at the allergy clinic.

sorry to be so dramatic, I have just started to feel really worried again, I thought we had found the answer and now things are getting bad again.

sleep apnoea is when a person briefly stops breathing, sometimes as a result of snoring. Most people get it very occasionally, maybe during a heavy cold, but some get it all the time and its then very hard work and very tiring. You hear snoring, followed by a short silence, followed by a gasp.

My dd2 will probably need her tonsils out eventually, but she's only 18 mos atm

No, that was a long time ago, they thought she was lactose intolerant (or she was) but she grew out of it.

Low iron or poor iron absorption without being fully anaemic can make you feel very tired, as I can testify. But for yor dc, given their existing health problems, I would insist on a full blood-test as a starting point.
