Neck pain usually is due to stiff or tight muscles. Does it feel like that sort of pain? How is your posture generally?

Starrrz · 19/12/2025 09:33

@MuyPuy my posture is awful!!! It hurts if i try to stand tall! It seems to of flared since i have my baby 5 months ago now. I have REALLY tight neck and shoulder muscles :( x

I’m not a medic in anyway but it’s sounds like you would benefit by regular exercise that works your posterior chain of muscles and a good sports massage to try and release some of those muscles. It will be your back and shoulder which is triggering your neck.
How much exercise do you do at the moment (and I appreciate it is very hard to carve out time for yourself when you have a baby - I’ve been there)?

My neck used to be very tight and painful. The first thing I changed was my pillow, to one which is flatter but denser and more supportive. I also found that yoga really helped to loosen the muscles and have noticeable relief. Try a YouTube video

Perhaps look at online yoga sessions, something that will move the body but fit into your life/health.
Its a good call from the PP who mentioned a pillow. What about your mattress? Is that supportive of your back?

Thatsanotherfinemess1 · 19/12/2025 11:54

The pillow I bought was a dunlopillo but I've had bamboo/memory ones which have also been good. My original one was higher and put my neck at an angle. With yoga, I find lying on your back, legs bent or straight, shoulder blades down and chin tilted slightly to your chest is a good neutral position- I work at a computer so need this to decompress. Then stretch your legs out, push into your heels and bring both arms over your head and stretch. Back into neutral position and slowly move your head over to the left and then back to the middle and then to the right a few times. You can also do the look left, look right, look up, look down very very slowly whilst standing. I'd look online for some shoulder and back stretches too (somatic stretches are excellent) as the stiffness may be radiating from elsewhere in your back

Two things I forgot- breathe deeply whilst stretching as it will extend the stretch into your whole torso and use the weight of your head on the floor to massage your head whilst turning it, this feels lovely
