Resting heart rate of 85bpm

A group of us were talking the other week about heart rates and Apple Watches etc. Everybody seemed to have a very low resting HR in the 60s and I checked mine, it was 85 sitting down! Since then I’ve monitored it over the week and my resting is 85bpm even while lying down and watching tv.

is this too high?

Do you drink alcohol regularly? My resting heart rate goes up massively after I’ve had a drink and for about 72 hours afterwards. It doesn’t take much either, one glass of wine has an effect

@Ineedanewsofano I do not drink really at all. Maybe a 2 glasses a month maximum, if that.

I have got mine down from 70 to 60, it can be done. 3 times a week, 5k on a treadmill, plus 500m in the swimming pool.

Why would you say you resting heart rate is 85 when it’s quite clearly 72?

And 72 is nothing to be alarmed about in the slightest given you say you’re very much not at peak fitness

Normal HR at rest is 60 - 100, you are well withing range.

Are you quite small?

At birth a baby's heart rate is often 200bpm, as we grow then our heart also grows and your heart rate gradually goes down but if you are quite small then your HR is usually slightly higher.

Stop worrying and get on with life.
