Post menopausal bleeding

A few months ago, I noticed red blood on the toilet tissue, just that, so I thought I’d maybe scratched myself while showering.
However, last Saturday the same thing, bright red blood but much more and lasted all day and since then there’s been brownish spotting every day.
I know I have to go to the doctors but I’m frozen in fear, as my mind has gone “C” but is there a possibility it could be something else?

Yes most definitely but you know you need to get it checked out. I hadn’t had a period for 18 months so thought I was done with them then I started spotting. Went to Drs had a scan and a hysteroscopy or however it’s spelt which found nothing sinister although I did then have two random periods but nothing since.

I'm not a doc, but I know that there are number of benign causes of post-menopausal bleeding.

BUT - as PP said - you absolutely must get seen. Whatever it is, the sooner it's dealt with the better. When was the last time you had a gyn exam?

OP - are you on HRT? This can cause bleeding.

If not, do you use vaginal estrogen. The most common cause of PMB is dryness of the vaginal wall. Or you could have a benign cyst.

Only 10% of PMB is cancer. If you're 50yrs old it's 1%

Thankyou so much for your replies, which have made me less fearful…
I’m not on any sort of Hrt or vaginal estrogen but it could be vaginal dryness as when I got thrush a while ago after taking antibiotics, I couldn’t insert the Canesten suppository.
I will ring the doctors on Monday and Thankyou once again for being so kind.

I had some very light bleeding about 18 months after the menopause. Went to GP and was referred v quickly to hospital. Hospital dr was lovely and said it's not uncommon for your body to surprise you with one very light period long after you'd thought you were finished. She also emphasised that I was absolutely right to get it checked out, and that if it happened again I was to get it checked out again, not just rely on it having been ok the first time. It hasn't occurred again, and rhat was 6 years ago.

OP - all postmenopausal women need vaginal estrogen to prevent dryness abd long term bladder problems. Ask your GP to prescribe Vagifem or Estriol.

And don't panic if they give you a two week wait referral. It's standard for PMB but doesn't mean they think you have cancer.

Definitely get checked out. PMB could be something or nothing.
