Hi , is anyone suffering with bursitis I’ve been in pain with my hip and lower back being fobbed off and to exercise , a couple of weeks ago I spoke to the physio and he requested an MRI
the results are back and I do have an inflamed bursa but there is wear & tear with cartilage damage to my hip . He said it’s basically and wear and tear & to continue the exercises that he sent me if these don’t help he’ll do a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon .
The exercises are agony I’m as stiff as a board
Any advice please ?

When I had hip bursitis I was told to rest it for at least 2 weeks until the inflammation had gone down. Also had to take anti-inflammatory tablets. Then I had to start the physio, very gently at first otherwise you just re-injure/inflame it again.

The cartilage damage might not repair so you could always have an ache, clunk or twinge.

It's a long process and you can't make it heal quicker by really going for it with the physio in the first instance.

I had steroid injections and they were life changing. However ..... Once I started on her it disappeared ... Came off it , came back again , went back on her and disappeared again

Thankyou for your replies & advice , I’ve had this pain for five years the Dr did say it was bursitis but I asked for an MRI to confirm before I thought about injections . I think it started after I was doing exercise that was too advanced a lesson hard learnt . I’ve been doing some reading and the only way to get rid of bursitis is to have the bursa removed . I’m not keen on injections as there are only so many that you can have until they start to cause more damage .
My cartilage damage is general wear and tear which makes me feel old but the physio said it’s normal both my parents were crippled with Osteoarthritis. I don’t smoke , drink rarely so I’ve decided to try clean living after Christmas cutting out processed foods & sugar from my diet , it’s going to be tough but I’m hoping it’ll reduce the inflammation in my body .
Im also going to join the gym starting off gently and introducing yoga , I think I also need to do a bit of cardio . When we are young we think we are invincible but the little health niggles are starting now especially going into menopause and Estrogen deficiency.

I don't know about the cartiladge but when I had hip bursitis, my physio suggested turmeric as an alternative to the regular ibuprofen I was taking.

It had been hanging around for months, very painful, with visible swelling and was gone within a week after starting high strength turmeric capsules.
