Tinnitus - getting me down. Any advice?

I've had tinnitus for the last couple of years. It is a high pitched whine in both ears, like a high pitched drill, or like someone getting feedback on microphone. It used to come and go.
Recently it is constant, sometimes it is so loud it makes me wince. It's affecting my sleep and getting me down because it is just unavoidable!
I'm trying to get a GP appointment, but there is a long wait.
I wondered if anyone had any self help tips, whilst I'm waiting.
Thankyou!

Unfortunately not, I’ve had it for 12 years and listen to sleep music to help tune it out which helps.

Mine started after a series of ear infections (never had an ear infection before that or since), my hearing is awful too since it started, especially in noisy environments (restaurants, open office etc), but they did hearing tests and said hearing was ok, it was my brain interpreting the sounds 🤔 MRI showed no issues so basically told to live with it ☹️

I can’t go to sleep in silence I have to have some background noise, that helps me.

I’ve not had Tinnitus for very long but I found listening to audiobooks, podcasts or some kind of talk radio helped me a lot at night to fall asleep - I could not fall asleep in silence, the buzzing just felt like it got louder and louder as there was nothing else to focus on. In my case, White noise just made the sound worse for me as well. I hope the GP can help, I know wait times for appointments vary across the country but I got an appt to a Tinnitus Clinic within a few weeks
