Shoulder X-ray- Will I need to take my top off?

Or can I just wear short sleeves and roll one up?

I'm not bothered about taking my top off, I just need to know what to wear.

For a chst X ray I had to take off my top and bra, and any jewellery, and put on a gown

The last time I had a shoulder x-ray I just took my bra off and kept my top on. It probably depends on the hospital tbh. I don’t think you would roll anything up though, it would just be top on or top off with a gown I would have thought.

Yes but they will cover you with a gown until the last minute !

No, have had several this year following a fracture and short sleeve/vest top was fine but they prefer bra with no metal fastening.

Thank you everyone. I typically wear dresses, so I'm glad I asked.

I had one a few years ago when I fractured my ribs coughing and I didn't have to take any clothes off. I think they asked if I was wearing a bra but I was so ill I was in my pyjamas so no bra!

Zov · 09/12/2025 19:32

I did when I had one a couple of years ago. As has been said, I had to get undressed in a small cubicle/changing room, and wear a gown, then I dropped the gown off for the x-ray.

Don't worry. They've seen it all before. They won't even notice (your boobs.)

I had one a few weeks ago. Wore a sleeveless top with no bra and a zip-up hoody so all I had to do was take the hoody off. No changing into a gown necessary.

ideally you should be changed into a hospital gown. Bra off as metal will obviously show but, with the highly sensitive digital imaging now used, even seams/folds in fabric can show and there is the possibility of things such as subtle calcification being obscured. You do not need to be imaged topless. That delight is reserved for mammograms.

I had to take bra and top off and change into a gown in a cubicle. Kept gown on for the xray
