Trying to suss out what will help get rid of this? Is it a winter skin thing or fungal? Just asking if anyone can shed any light on similar experiences? She is 14 and good health. Just suffering with crusty skin on eyelids and thats both of them. Theyre not sore or red. We are going to drs this week. Thanks all

Maybe an allergic reaction. Has she dyed her hair or any other new hair product?

I'd only use something very basic til you see the Dr. You can't use all eczema creams in the eye area.

Is it blepharitis? I get it sometimes, it only gets sore if I leave it without using hot compress or dry eye drops.

If so, an optician or pharmacist can help and there’s self care of hot compresses to try and improve things whilst waiting for doctor. Wouldn’t do anything more than that until sure of diagnosis.

(I’d google more pictures of blepharitis as nhs website has chosen the mildest case ever for their picture here!)

Does she wear nail varnish? It’s a very common reaction, if so. Hand cream? We rub our eyes much more than people realise.

That sounds like Blepharitis - itchy, dry inflammed eyelids - burny feeling at times. Go to chemist and ask to get the Blephasol Micellar wipes and the Blephaderm cream and dry eyes eye drops. Clean the eye lids twice a day with the wipes then apply the cream. And use the drops so her eyes aren't dry as that irritates the lids more. I get this in winter and when I'm run down. Its hard to get rid of and will flare up from time to time and can come back from using any eye make up remover/eye make up that I'm sensitive too etc. Basically its like exzema as you say.

I get eczema on my eyelids, so does DS. A bit of hydrocortisone ointment clears it, but I wouldn’t put anything on without a prescription because steroids around the eyes in particular need careful use for a limited period only.

I get weird allergy this time of year. I think its some sort of pollen or something. I take anti histamines.

Thatsanotherfinemess1 · 08/12/2025 10:37

I get eczema on my eyelids when I'm stressed or have very dry eyes. The itching is awful and scratching makes it sore. I use a tiny smear of eurax cream (over the counter and on the medicine shelf in the supermarket) for a couple of days, if that doesn't clear it up then the pharmacist usually recommends a steroid cream but I rarely need that

Lennonjingles · 08/12/2025 10:40

I get it this time of year, I have used Blink wipes before but optician doesn’t stock these so I have some gel, you wipe it on eye lids, then wash off, twice a day, must be caused by heating drying the skin. Product is called Optbase.

I don’t suppose she’s using cream / gel / lotion to treat acne? I developed an allergy to an active ingredient in some acne treatment at around the same age and the symptoms manifested as flaky / weepy eyelids. Obviously I had never applied the acne cream directly to my eyelids, but the dr said it was quite a common reaction.
