Does anyone's child have repeated odd high fevers?

DS1 used to. Between the baby years and up until he was about 5 or 6.

DS3 (now 3) seems to be the same.

For example, put him to bed last night as normal. About 11ish he called out for me and was absolutely roasting. Took his temperature and it was over 40 (I actually thought it was going to be higher from the feel of him). Dosed him up with nurofen. His temp came down after about an hour and he slept soundly in with me. Right as rain this morning.

That's good, if he's getting fewer episodes. You may well already keep a food diary for him, so it's possible you'll see a link there, if his migraine is food-connected.

HIs diet is pretty similar most days so it should be easy to spot a change. I think the biggest trigger is definitely lack of food/over emotional excitement though.

How's your ds2 doing with it these days?

yes dd2 (the one who has some traits but no dx) gets high temps. hasnt had one for a whle though. some nights when i go and check on her she is dripping in sweat and high temp, even in the midst of winter. sometimes she seems 'drowsey' in the day with it, but most of the time no other symptoms and bouncing back the next day.

but i always put this down to her havign a higher pain threshold than the other dd's as she isnt one to grumble even when ill, and has had many accidents and not told anyone. she dislocated her tumb at nursery and didnt tell anyone all day, has cut her feet up playing outside and didnt tell me only knwe when she came in covered in dried blood.

Yes ds currently having a bout now - last anything from 12 hours up to several weeks and go as high as 41. we are on day 3 now. He does get symptoms such as the usual cold hands, tiredness but also aching limbs, loss of appetite and sometimes a band of pain across top of tummy. He has been tested in the past for numerous things ranging from juvenille athritis to celiac disease. He has got a heart murmur though and also has increased sensitivity to light and loud noises. He also suffered with repeated ear infections a toddler. I tend to put it down the fact that he is just a very sensitive child. Autism has too been mentioned but again ruled out.

Migraine's not a problem for ds2 nowadays. He improved dramatically after leaving school (interesting!) and only has an occasional one now. Both my other two grown-up dc get migraine, as well, though never as crippling as ds2's. He had a cr*p childhood, what with severe asthma and migraines. He's made up for it now, though.

I was thinking about this last night and recalled that the food triggers weren't necessarily the sole cause of the migraine. It was as if ds2 was already 'primed' to get one and then eating chocolate etc just pushed him over the edge. He could eat chocolate at other times with no ill effect at all.

Dh used to crave chocolate when he was building up to a migraine. I wonder why the body seems to go on a self-destruct course?? It seems illogical.
