Dizziness - any similar experiences?

I have experienced recurrent dizzy spells for the last 5 years. Usually every 6 months or so, lasting from a few days to a few weeks. Have seen an ENT, had a CT scan, hearing tests etc and it’s been concluded it’s an inner ear issue. I can take medication for it but for no longer than 3 days or it apparently starts to impact the brain’s ability to control balance itself.

The dizziness is inside my head rather than outside - it doesn’t feel like the room is spinning, it feels like my head is spinning on the inside.

I have been experiencing my current spell for 8 weeks and it is awful. It is intermittent so some days I feel ok for most of the day and some days it is constant. A few times I have had huge waves of it where I feel like I am going to faint.

This is causing me huge anxiety which can’t be helping and I feel like I am at my limit of what I can cope with.

I am going to get a GP appointment tomorrow but am not too hopeful as they previously just shrug their shoulders and don’t offer much help.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar?

Did you manage to speak to the doctor?

AlexBrad · 09/12/2025 17:48

I did, they’ve run a load of blood tests to check thyroid, hormone levels and various other things so hopefully that will shed some light. They’ve also prescribed me betahistine but that can take a while to make a difference, apparently.

Oh good. Keep us posted with how you get on. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery. I know how debilitating it can be.
