calling all dentists or folk who have had cosmetic dentistry...or folk in hungary...(can you tell where this is going?)

I need to get my teeth sorted out - I have one broken front tooth and one dead and discoloured one (nice!) as well as fairly nasty ones either side. My dentist reckons I need a ceramic crown on each of the front ones and two veneers on each side of those and then two new crowns either side of those . So 4 crowns and 4 veneers in total. He has quoted me just £3,000 after I told him I was thinking of going to hungary to have it done.

I don't really have £3000 to spend on teeth but if we do the garden ourselves and don't go on any hols ever again we could just swing it. DH really wants me to get them done (my teeth are really terrible looking at the mo!)

anyway - what's my question...well, I have a few

firstly - will a local neighbourhood dentist be ok to do this sort of work - I really want it to look GREAT if I do it, as £3000 is like a fortune to me...

secondly - does this price seem reasonable? having looked it up online it seems on the lower end of the scale, which suits me fine as long as he knows what he is doing (I am slightly worried he gae me a low price to try to steer me away from going abroad and will then bump it up when I do it)

thirdly - has anyone had similar work done in Hungary and what did you pay there/how was it etc?

(if there is only a difference of couple of hundred quid I would stay here to avoid the hassle factor)

fourthly - anyone had this stuff done at all and was it worth it?

anything else you'd like to tell me feel free

have booked two appointments with local dentist

first will take 3 hours (3 HOURS ) and the second 2 (well, that's a relief )

so I should be smiling properly by mid july...

Hi Jeangenie,
Have posted a couple of times about my..shyte teeth!
Have just got home from a 90 minute appointment to try and sort out my 2 front teeth, which I've ground down in my sleep and cracked. I don't know what he did, but the crack's gone and the ridges at the bottom have too

If you can afford it, go for it and have the work done. You'll feel so much better for it. This morning's trip cost me £360 and there's more to come . It's going to make serious dents in my budget, but I still think it's money well spent .

Good luck!

thanks shyteteeth (great name - are you Irish by any chance? nothing to do with the state of your teeth...just the word "shyte" sound quite Irish)

do you get yours done at local dentist? I hope mine is able for it...am sure he must be

I grind in my sleep too, and my teeth suffered years of acid abuse as I was chronic bulimic in my late teens/early twenties (nice!) which has absolutely wrecked them

You poor thing! My dentist asked if I was / had been bullemic as my front teeth looked characteristic of it, but I've never made myself sick, so he did put all my damage down to grinding.

Honestly, if you can find the cash, do it, I feel 100% today! Still got a long way to go (and a lot of money to spend) but the process is underway and it's great!

I went private for this as my previous dentist basically wasn't up to much (long story, you can read about it on previous posts if you're interested ). There aren't any NHS denstists taking new people on at the moment and I'm not sure NHS do work if it's deemed 'cosmetic'.

Anyway, blimey, went on a bit there!

Good luck with it all! Will you post and let us know how it goes?

(not irish btw, based in south of england)

thanks S-teeth

I am a bit nervous as I have never spent so much money on my appearance before, so am hoping my dentist is up to the job. He has been in business a long time and does mostly private work so hopefully he is well experienced.

I didn't know it was a recognised thing about the acid on the teeth, no dentist has ever asked me...I just put two and two together and realised it must have totally wrecked them

not helped by the grinding of course

well, am all booked in and so hopefully in about a month I'll be like this and not trying to smile with my mouth closed (well, the smiling is ok, it's the talking and laughing that are tricky!!)

thanks for the nice words

No personal experience but my parents lived in Hungary (Budapest) a couple of years ago and had loads of dental work done there as the dentists are meant to be some of the best in the world. They were very happy with it and got as much done as possible before they left! No idea about price though I'm afraid... think there is a mnetter who lives in Budapest called Buda? Maybe you could try and track her down?

Good luck!
